Twin, Alabama
Twin, also known as Yampertown, is a town in Marion County, Alabama, United States. It is about equidistant from Brilliant, Guin and Winfield. It incorporated on August 6, 2002, becoming the 10th incorporated community in Marion County. It had a population of 359 as of the 2020 census. Geography Twin is in southern Marion County, bordered to the west and east by the city of Guin. I-22/US 78 passes through the town, with access from exit 26 ( SR 44). Hamilton, the Marion county seat, is to the northwest, and Jasper is to the southeast. SR 44 leads east to Brilliant and southwest to Guin, while SR 253 leads southeast to Winfield and north to Hackleburg. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town of Twin has an area of , all of it recorded as land. Winfield, Alabama
Winfield is a city in Marion and Fayette counties in the U.S. state of Alabama. The population was 4,845 at the 2020 census, the second largest city in Marion County. History Winfield is a small city situated in northwest Alabama, east of the Mississippi state line. It lies in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain range which stretches from the deep South all the way to Canada. Long before the earliest settlers arrived, native tribes hunted in the forest and fished in the streams of the region. This area was once the domain of the Chickasaw people. Although there were no known Native settlements within the county, several sites were maintained as hunting camps. The site was originally known simply as Luxapallila, after the adjacent creek. Tombigbee River
The Tombigbee River is a tributary of the Mobile River, approximately 200 mi (325 km) long, in the U.S. states of Mississippi and Alabama. Together with the Alabama, it merges to form the short Mobile River before the latter empties into Mobile Bay on the Gulf of Mexico. State Route 253 (SR 253) is a route that serves as a connection between US 43/ SR 118/ SR 171 in Winfield with SR 172 in Hackleburg. Route description The northern terminus of SR 253 is located at its intersection with SR 172 in downtown Hackleburg. Jasper, Alabama
Jasper is a city in and the county seat of Walker County, Alabama, United States. Its population was 14,352 as of the 2010 census. Named in honor of Sergeant William Jasper, an American Revolutionary War hero, Jasper was settled around 1815 and incorporated on August 18, 1886. The first significant growth of the area was in 1886, when the Kansas City, Memphis and Birmingham Railroad and the Sheffield & Birmingham Railroads were completed through Jasper. The population grew from 200 people in 1886 to more than 3,000 in 1890. Hamilton, Alabama
Hamilton is a city in and the county seat of Marion County, Alabama, United States. It incorporated in 1896 and since 1980 has been the county's largest city, surpassing Winfield. It was previously the largest town in 1910. At the 2020 census, the population was 7,042. History Hamilton was founded in the early 19th century by settlers who moved to the Alabama Territory from Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, Georgia and the Carolinas. It is built upon lands that once served as "hunting grounds" for the Chickasaw people. Interstate 22 (I-22) is a Interstate Highway in the US states of Mississippi and Alabama, connecting I-269 near Byhalia, Mississippi, to I-65 near Birmingham, Alabama. The United States census of 2020 was the twenty-fourth decennial United States census. Census Day, the reference day used for the census, was April 1, 2020. Other than a pilot study during the 2000 census, this was the first U.S. census to offer options to respond online or by phone, in addition to the paper response form used for previous censuses.
