Tweedy (band)
Tweedy is an American rock band composed of Jeff Tweedy, from the group Wilco, and his son, Spencer. The duo has released one album, ''Sukierae,'' in 2014. The elder Tweedy had planned ''Sukierae'' to be a solo record, but kept Spencer involved after playing together on early sessions. The group's album name references Susie, Jeff's wife and Spencer's mother, who was diagnosed with cancer during the composition process. When touring, as of 2014 the group included bassist Darin Gray, guitarist Jim Elkington, keyboardist-guitarist Liam Kazar (Cunningham), and sometimes singer Sima Cunningham (Liam's sister). Spencer Tweedy had played drums with his father on a previous record, Mavis Staples' ''One True Vine'', which Jeff Tweedy produced. USS ''Tweedy'' (DE-532) was a in service with the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946 and from 1952 to 1969. She was sunk as a target in 1970. Namesake Albert William Tweedy, Jr., was born on 22 March 1920 and attended public schools in Winnetka, Illinois and Hingham, Massachusetts. He enrolled at Williams College, Williamstown, Massachusetts, in late 1938. In the summer of 1939, he completed United States Marine Corps' Platoon Commander School at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia and, at the end of his second year, left college to become a Marine Aviation Cadet. Following flight training at Naval Air Station Squantum, Massachusetts and Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps Reserve on 14 October 1941. Tweedie or Tweedy is a Scottish clan name. The Clan Tweedie does not currently have a chief recognized by the Lord Lyon King of Arms and is therefore considered an Armigerous clan. However the surname is also considered a sept of the Clan Fraser. The name is derived from the lands of Tweedie which were along the Valley of the River Tweed in Peebleshire in the Scottish Borders. History Mythical origins of the clan Scottish tradition ascribes the origin of the Tweedie name to be that of a water sprite in the River Tweed. Legend tells of a husband who went off to fight in the crusades and while he was away his young wife became pregnant and so he returned home to find he had a son. Giffords Circus
Giffords Circus is a traditional English circus that tours the Cotswolds every summer. it is also performing at Chiswick House. Established in 2000, Giffords Circus is a small circus company, founded by Nell and Toti Gifford, that tours market towns of the Southwest. When not on the road, the founders concentrated on landscape architecture. Nell Gifford was the sister of designer Emma Bridgewater and journalist Clover Stroud. She died on 8 December 2019, aged 46, from cancer. The circus is now managed by her niece Lil Rice. and has been directed for the last 11 years by Cal McCrystal.
