Tuvalu Association Of Sports And National Olympic Committee
The Tuvalu Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (TASNOC) is the Tuvaluan organization recognized as a National Olympic Committee (NOC) by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). In 2006, Tuvalu satisfied the IOC's criterion of a minimum five national sports federations recognized by their international sports federations, which included basketball, volleyball, weightlifting, boxing and table tennis. TASNOC is a signatory to the World Anti-Doping Code published by the World Anti-Doping Agency. History TASNOC came into existence when the ''Tuvalu Amateur Sport Association'' or ''Tuvalu Association of Sports'' (TAS) was recognized as the ''Tuvalu National Olympic Committee'' on 16 July 2007. Vaiaku
Vaiaku is a village located on the southern coast of the island of Fongafale in the atoll of Funafuti in Tuvalu. There are 516 inhabitants in Vaiaku, according to the census of 2002, out of 4,492 for the whole atoll of Funafuti, which is the official capital of Tuvalu. All the administrative buildings, including the National Bank of Tuvalu, and the only hotel of Tuvalu, Vaiaku Langi Hotel, are located in Vaiaku. It also has Teone Church, which is the only church of the Latin Catholic Mission Sui Iuris of Funafuti. The Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) is an international multi-sport event organized by the Commonwealth Games Federation. The games were held in the years, mid-way between when the Commonwealth Games are held, until 2008. They continued to be held every four years, but in the year ''after'' the Commonwealth Games are held, from 2011 to 2015. Since 2017, they've been held in the year ''before'' the Commonwealth Games are held. The first edition was held in Edinburgh, Scotland from 10–14 August 2000. The Commonwealth Games, often referred to as the Friendly Games or simply the Comm Games, are a quadrennial international multi-sport event among athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. Telupe Iosefa (born 1 November 1986, in Nukulaelae) is a Tuvaluan powerlifter. In 2015 Telupe Iosefa received the first ever gold medal won by Tuvalu at the Pacific Games in the powerlifting 120 kg male division. Career The Tuvalu Weightlifting Federation staged its first national competition on 2 July 2013 as part of the 2013 Tuvalu Games. Telupe Iosefa won the 105 kg male division. At the 2013 Commonwealth Men's Powerlifting Championships in Auckland, New Zealand, Iosefa won the silver medal in the 105 kg male division with a total of 647.5 kg. In 2014 he achieved the best performance in the squat lift with 316 kg in the 120 kg male division at the Oceania Powerlifting Federation event on 14 December 2014 at Melbourne, Australia. Pacific Games
The Pacific Games (French: Jeux du Pacifique), is a continental multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from Oceania. The inaugural Games took place in 1963 in Suva, Fiji, and most recently in 2019 in Apia, Samoa. The Games were called the South Pacific Games from 1963 to 2007. The Pacific Games Council (PGC) organises the Games and oversees the host city's preparations. Athletes with a disability are included as full members of their national teams.
