Tutong Sixth Form Centre
Tutong Sixth Form Centre (; Malay, abbreviated; ') is a sixth form centre in Tutong District, Brunei. It first opened its doors in 2012, and since then, accepts mainly secondary school leavers from the district. Background The school campus is located at Bukit Beruang, some 14 kilometres from the town of Tutong and about 60 kilometres from Bandar Seri Begawan. The construction began in 2009 and took 20 months to complete. It is estimated to have cost roughly 20 million Brunei dollars. It is the first dedicated sixth form centre in the district. Sixth form education for the district began in 2002 but was run under the administration of Sayyidina 'Othman Secondary School and thus shared facilities with the school's secondary education. Bukit Beruang, Brunei
Kampong Bukit Beruang (), also simply known as Bukit Beruang, is a village in Tutong District, Brunei, about from the district town Pekan Tutong. The population was 6,157 in 2016. It is one of the villages within Mukim Telisai, a mukim subdivision in the district. It comprises the original village settlement as well as the public housing estate Bukit Beruang National Housing Scheme. Name The name Bukit Beruang, which meaning Hill of Bears, is one of the more well-known place names. According to one myth, bears used to inhabit the area, which is how the place got its name. Sungai Beruang (Bears' Stream) is the name of a creek in Tutong, which may be related to the same bears. The village was originally named Tepangan Beruang, which means 'A tree where a bear nests'. Sayyidina 'Othman Secondary School ( or ''SMSO'') is a government secondary school in Bukit Beruang, a settlement in Tutong District, Brunei. The school provides five years of general secondary education leading up to O Level qualification. As of 2018, the principal of Sayyidina 'Othman Secondary School is Vincent Andrew. History On 9 May 1994, Bukit Beruang Secondary School officially opened. It was renamed Sayyidina 'Othman Secondary School on 30 July 1996, with the help of Pengiran Ismail. Tutong District (; Jawi: دائيره توتوڠ) or simply Tutong is one of the four districts of Brunei. It has an area of ; the population was 48,313 in 2016. The administrative town is Pekan Tutong.
