Turkoman Revolt Of 1912–1913
The Turkoman Revolt of 1912–1913 was a revolt by Yomud Turkomans against the Khanate of Khiva. Its causes lay in opposition to the taxation reforms of Isfandiyar Jurji Bahadur Isfandiyar Khan, or Asfandiyar Khan ( uz, Isfandiyar-Xon; russian: Асфандияр-хан; 1871 – 1 October 1918), born Isfandiyar Jurji Bahadur, was the Khan of Khiva between September 1910 and 1 October 1918, the 53rd Khan of Khiva, and t ..., which had resulted in the doubling or tripling of the amount of taxes the Yomud Turkomans needed to pay. It began on 12 December 1912 (25 December 1912, ) when rebels attacked and plundered a caravan heading from Tashauz to Takhta. After the revolt broke out, the Khivan government was split between pro-compromise and pro-war parties, of which the latter prevailed. Khanate Of Khiva
The Khanate of Khiva ( chg, ''Khivâ Khânligi'', fa, ''Khânât-e Khiveh'', uz, Xiva xonligi, tk, Hywa hanlygy) was a Central Asian polity that existed in the historical region of Khwarezm in Central Asia from 1511 to 1920, except for a period of Afsharid occupation by Nader Shah between 1740 and 1746. Centred in the irrigated plains of the lower Amu Darya, south of the Aral Sea, with the capital in the city of Khiva, the country was ruled by a Turco-Mongol tribe, the Khongirads, who came from Astrakhan. It covered present western Uzbekistan, southwestern Kazakhstan and much of Turkmenistan before Russian arrival at the second half of the 19th century. In 1873, the Khanate of Khiva was much reduced in size and became a Russian protectorate. The other regional protectorate that lasted until the Revolution was the Emirate of Bukhara. Isfandiyar Jurji Bahadur
Isfandiyar Khan, or Asfandiyar Khan ( uz, Isfandiyar-Xon; russian: Асфандияр-хан; 1871 – 1 October 1918), born Isfandiyar Jurji Bahadur, was the Khan of Khiva between September 1910 and 1 October 1918, the 53rd Khan of Khiva, and the 12th Khongirad ruler of the Uzbeks. He was overthrown and executed by Junaid Khan (Basmachi leader), Junaid Khan in 1918. Life In 1910, after the death of his father, Muhammad Rahim Khan II, Isfandiyar Khan came to power in Khiva. Unlike his father, he did not have many special talents. Initially, the enlightened vizier Islam Khodja played a large role in the running of the state. Using his money, a cotton gin plant, a hospital, a post mail, a telegraph and a secular school was built. Between 1908 and 1910, Islam Khodja built an emsemble of buildings in the Southeast of Itchan Kala, consisting of the smallest madrasa and the largest minaret of Khiva.
