	Turkish Women Writers Turkish women writers refers to Turkish women contributors to Turkish literature. The area is parallel to Women's writing in English. Pioneers During the Ottoman era, there were only a few woman poets and novelists. Professor Nazan Bekiroğlu gives the priority to two woman poets; Zeynep Hatun and Mihri Hatun who lived in the 15th century. But probably the best known woman poet was Fitnat Hanım of the 18th century. The first Ottoman novelists were Zafer Hanım who was the first author of a novel published in 1877 and Fatma Aliye who is considered by many as the first Turkish female novelist. ( ''Hatun'' and ''Hanım'' are titles equivalent to "lady"). Fatma Aliye's sister Emine Semiye Önasya was also a novelist and textbook author. On her return to Turkey, she attended the Middle East Technical University Electronics and Economics departments for one year. She went to the UK in 1977 and received her BA from the Department of Economics at the University of Manchester and her master's degree from the Sociology of Literature at Essex University. She went to Brussels in 1983, marrying Belgian painter Patrick Jacquart. She lived here between 1983-1986. She returned home in 1986. 	Kerime Nadir Kerime Nadir Azrak (5 February 1917 – 20 March 1984) was a Turkish novelist and author. Life Kerime Nadir was born in Istanbul, Ottoman Empire on 5 February 1917. Her father was a financial officer Nadir Azrak. She graduated from the French St. Joseph High School in İstanbul in 1935. In addition, she took private lessons. She married twice, each lasted briefly. She spent the summer months in her youth years at her aunts' mansions in Beylerbeyi and Çamlıca. 	İnci Asena İnci Asena (born in 1948) is a Turkish publisher and a poet. She is also a former Miss Turkey. Life She was born to Muhtar and Nihal in İstanbul, Turkey in 1948. She is the younger sister of Duygu Asena, a notable journalist. She graduated from the School of English studies at İstanbul University. 	Halide Nusret Zorlutuna Halide Nusret Zorlutuna (1901 – 10 June 1984) was a Turkish poet and novelist. 	Güzin Dino Güzin Dino (1910 – May 30, 2013) was a Turkish literary scholar, linguist, translator and writer. She is known for writing from a Marxist perspective. 	Gülten Akın Gülten Akın (23 January 1933 – 4 November 2015) was a Turkish poet. Her poetry is considered to be culturally significant to Turkey. Akin was born in 1933 in Yozgat, Turkey. She attended Beşiktaş Atatürk Anatolian High School and graduated from Ankara University Law School in 1955. She married her husband Yaşar Cankoçak in 1956, with whom she had five children.
