Cinema of Turkey or Turkish cinema (also old known as ''Yeşilçam'' literally means ''The Green Pine'' in Turkish language), () or Türk sineması is the sobriquet that refers to the Turkish film art and industry. It is an important part of Turkish culture, and has flourished over the years, delivering entertainment to audiences in Turkey, Turkish expatriates across Europe, Balkans & Eastern Europe, also more recently prospering in the Arab world and to a lesser extent, the rest of the world. The first film exhibited in the Ottoman Empire was the Lumière Brothers' 1895 film, ''L'Arrivée d'un train en gare de La Ciotat'', which was shown in Istanbul in 1896. ''The Weavers'' (1905), by the Manaki brothers, was the first film made in the Ottoman Empire. Benedek Fliegauf
Benedek "Bence" Fliegauf (born 15 August 1974 in Budapest) is a Hungarian film director and screenwriter. Life and career Originally Fliegauf planned to become a writer. However, he had to abandon his plans due to a lack of finances. Instead, Fliegauf studied to become a stage designer between 1995 and 1998 and was hired as an assistant at Hungarian Television where he went on to become a director and editor. As assistant director, he studied under Miklós Jancsó and Árpád Sopsits. Fliegauf, who never attended film school, made his directorial debut in 1999 with the documentary ''Határvonal''. Success first came with ''Beszélő fejek'' (2001), a film made up of six stories of everyday urban life. Fliegauf received the Award for Best Experimental Film at the Hungarian Film Week for this 27-minute short film. The 10th !f Istanbul AFM International Independent Film Festival was a film festival held in Istanbul, Turkey, from February 17 to 27, 2011, and in Ankara, Turkey from March 2 to 6, 2011. 85 films were screened in 17 different categories at Beyoğlu AFM Fitaş, Caddebostan AFM Budak, AFM İstinye Park, and Cinebonus Maçka G-Mall in Istanbul. Chilean director Alejandro Jodorowsky was in attendance as guest of honour at the festival, which included the first ever Turkish theatrical screening of his '' Santa Sangre'' (1989). British director Chris Morris was also in attendance to present his debut feature '' Four Lions'' (2009). The 30th International Istanbul Film Festival ( tr, 30. Uluslararası İstanbul Film Festivali) was a film festival held in Istanbul, Turkey, which ran from April 2 to 17, 2011. 232 films were screened in 21 categories at Atlas, Beyoğlu, Fitaş, Pera Museum Cinema, Nişantaşı CityLife, and Kadıköy Rexx. 61st Berlin International Film Festival
The 61st annual Berlin International Film Festival was held from 10 to 20 February 2011, with actress Isabella Rossellini as the President of the Jury. The Coen Brothers film ''True Grit'' opened the festival. 300,000 tickets were sold in total during the event, to 20,000 attendees from 116 countries, including 3900 members of the press. German actor Armin Mueller-Stahl received the Honorary Golden Bear for lifetime achievement. The Golden Bear for Best Film went to the Iranian film ''Nader and Simin, A Separation'', directed by Asghar Farhadi, which also served as the closing film at the festival.
