Addison is a borough in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of the Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 165 at the 2020 census. History Peter Augustine laid out the town of Petersburg, which later became Addison, in 1818. Henry Stuller built the first house here in 1820, the same year in which John Brown built a tavern. A schoolhouse was constructed about 1832, and a foundry was begun by Thomas & Nathan Cooper in 1844. Geography Addison is located at (39.7472, -79.3331), about west-northwest of Cumberland, Maryland and about east-northeast of Morgantown, West Virginia. Addison Township is a township in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 932 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Metropolitan Statistical Area. The township is named for Alexander Addison, the first president judge (the chief judge within a U.S. judicial district) overseeing Somerset County. History Major General Edward Braddock's Expedition of 1755 passed through the southwestern portion of the area that became Addison Township. The township was organized in 1800. Somerfield was laid out on the western edge of the township about 1816 by Philip D. Smyth, but the town was abandoned and covered over by the Youghiogheny River Lake in the 1940s. Confluence is a borough in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of the Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 724 at the 2020 census. Geography Confluence is at (39.809997, -79.356692). The borough is located at the southern end of Lower Turkeyfoot Township, and the borough of Ursina sits to its east. Confluence is named for the juncture of the Casselman River and Laurel Hill Creek with the Youghiogheny River. It therefore provides many opportunities for boating and fishing (and hiking, as Pennsylvania's highest point, Mount Davis, is located nearby). Lower Turkeyfoot Township is a township in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 543 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Turkeyfoot Township was formed from part of Brothersvalley Township in 1773, when both were still part of a larger Bedford County; Somerset County was not formed from the western portion of Bedford County until 1795. Just as new counties were split off from earlier counties, new townships were split off from earlier townships, and the townships of Upper Turkeyfoot & Lower Turkeyfoot took their current shapes in 1848. White settlers arrived in the Turkeyfoot area by the late 1760s, and a group of about 15-20 Baptist families came to the area from New Jersey around 1774. Ursina is a Borough (Pennsylvania), borough in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of the Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Metropolitan Statistical Area. Turkeyfoot Valley Area Junior/Senior High School
Turkeyfoot Valley Area Junior/Senior High School is one of two schools that are in the same building, which make up the Turkeyfoot Valley Area School District. The campus is located two miles south of Confluence on State Route 523 in the Lower Turkeyfoot Township community of Harnedsville. History Students moved into for the building in the fall of 1955, and it was dedicated in 1956 under Supervising Principal Howard Trexel. It was constructed of concrete, brick and steel and cost $658,584.22 to construct. The high school, along with the elementary annex was renovated in 1996.
