Turkey In The Eurovision Song Contest 1984
Turkey took part in the Eurovision Song Contest 1984. The country was represented by a music group named Beş Yıl Önce, On Yıl Sonra with the song "Halay", written by Ülkü Aker and composed by Selçuk Başar. Before Eurovision 8. Eurovision Şarkı Yarışması Türkiye Finali The final took place on 25 February 1984 at the TRT Studios in Istanbul, hosted by Başak Doğru. Ten songs competed and the winner was determined by an expert jury. According to the regulations the winner had to get at least 15 points. However at the end of the first voting no participant received the number of points required. Therefore a second round took place, with "Halay" performed by Beş Yıl Önce, On Yıl Sonra (which were ranked the third in the first voting) receiving the most points, and was thus determined as the winner. The Eurovision Song Contest 1984, the 29th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. Arif Sağ (born 1945) is a Turkish singer, bağlama virtuoso, and leading figure in modern Turkish folk music. A former academic, he was also a member of the Turkish parliament from 1987 to 1991. Early years Arif Sağ was born to a miller at Dallı village of Aşkale district in Erzurum Province, eastern Turkey. At the age of five, he learned to play the kaval, a simple traditional flute. One year later, he became interested in phonographs and phonograph records. He learned to play the bağlama in Erzincan when he was six years old. Sezen Aksu (; born Fatma Sezen Yıldırım; 13 July 1954) is a Turkish pop music singer, songwriter and producer who has sold over 40 million albums worldwide. Gönül Aysel Gürel (7 February 1929 – 17 February 2008) was a Turkish lyricist and actress. Besides her lyrics, which were performed by singers throughout Turkey, she was known for her outlandish clothing, make up and wigs. Biography Aysel Gürel was born in 1929 in Denizli, Turkey, in the western part of the country. She graduated from Istanbul University with a faculty of literature degree. Her lyrics were performed by such noted Turkish singers as Sezen Aksu. Besides lyric writing, Gürel also worked as an actress, drama player and a Turkologist. in 2007, Gürel appeared in a Turkish television commercial for Pepsi. Gürel was admitted to Metropolitan Florence Nightingale Hospital in Istanbul in December 2007. She was reportedly ill with lung cancer. Ohannes Tunçboyacı, better known as Onno Tunç (December 20, 1948 – January 14, 1996), was a leading Armenian-Turkish musician, working mainly as a composer, arranger and a music producer. Ayşegül Aldinç (; born 28 September 1957) is a Turkish singer and actress. Life and career She is the daughter of journalist and sports writer Orhan Aldinç and painting teacher Süheyla Aldinç. Selçuk Sun
Selcuk Sun (20 February 1934-22 March 2016) was a Turkish double bass player and one of the most significant jazz musicians in Turkey. He was born on 20 February 1934 in Istanbul. He graduated from Ankara State Conservatory and went on to pursue his interest in jazz music. He met Muvaffak "Maffy" Falay whom he played with. Later he worked with Dizzy Gillespie (during his world tour in 1956), Phil Woods, Joe Gordan, Frank Rehak, Ernie Wilkens and Quincy Jones. During Dave Brubeck's tour in Europe and Asia, Selcuk Sun played with the Dave Brubeck Quartet in Ankara in 1958. Nükhet Ruacan (14 December 1951 – 6 May 2007) was a female Turkish singer and educator in musicology. Life Nükhet Ruacan was born in Istanbul, Turkey on 14 December 1951. She studied graphic design in the State College of Applied Fine Arts Istanbul ( tr, İstanbul Devlet Tatbiki Güzel Sanatlar Yüksek Okulu). She married twice, and gave birth to a daughter, Roksan.
