Turan (album)
''Turan'' is the sixth and latest album of shamanic metal band Darkestrah, released on 29 April 2016. All music composed during the years 2014 and 2015 by Darkestrah, except the introduction by Turan Ensemble, Kazakhstan. It is the second album of Darkestrah released by Osmose Productions. It is the first album to feature the vocalist Merkith, as well. Critical reception The album received 4/5 score from ''Metal Hammer'' and hailed it as being an "epic folk metal album". Angry Metal Guy gave the album 3.5 stars out of 5, however mentioned the importance of previous albums over ''Turan''. Grim Lord from NewNoiseMagazine gave the album 4.5 stars out of 5 and praised it being an atmospheric black metal act. Darkestrah
Darkestrah is a Kyrgyz pagan metal band, formed in 1999 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Throughout their career the band has blended folklore music with metal elements. In its lyrics and in musical composition, the band uses national folk musical instruments, such as the komuz and kyl-kyak, and references shamanism and Tengrism. The band also takes influence from genres such as progressive rock and post-rock, generally constructing lengthy, rhythmically complex songs that often feature several discrete movements. The word "Darkestrah" is a portmanteau of two words: "dark" and "orchestra"; however, in one interview, the band's drummer Asbath stated that there is still mystic and hidden meaning in the name of the band. Since its formation in 1999, the band has released six studio albums, three EPs, one split, and one live album. Heavy metal (or simply metal) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and United States. Osmose Productions is a French independent record label created in 1991 by Hervé Herbaut, after he had spent three years running a small mail order company. Pagan Metal
Pagan metal is a genre of heavy metal music which fuses extreme metal with " the pre-Christian traditions of a specific culture or region" through thematic concept, rustic melodies, unusual instruments or archaic languages, Wiederhorn 2009, p. 62. usually referring to folk metal or black metal. The Norwegian band In the Woods... was one of the first bands commonly viewed as pagan metal. ''Metal Hammer'' author Marc Halupczok wrote that Primordial's song "To Enter Pagan" from the band's demo " Dark Romanticism" contributed to defining the genre. Metal Storm Limited was a research and development company based in Brisbane, Australia, that specialized in electronically initiated superposed load weapons technology and owned the proprietary rights to the electronic ballistics technology invented by J. Mike O'Dwyer. The Metal Storm name applied to both the company and technology. The company had been placed into voluntary administration by 2012. Temir Komuz
The ''temir komuz'' (sometimes temir qomuz meaning 'iron komuz/qomuz', agiz komuzu meaning 'mouth komuz', or gubuz) is a Kyrgyz jaw's harp, while the komuz is a three-stringed fretless lute. As an instrument, the temir komuz is unrelated to the komuz in terms of style and structure; however, it takes its name from the other popular Turkic instrument. The stringed komuz is used by Turkic people living in central Asia e.g., Kyrgyz, Uzbeks, Kazakhs, Turkmens, and Uyghurs, as well as by Azeri, Turkish, and Yakut people.
