Tungipara
Tungipara ( bn, টুঙ্গিপাড়া) is an upazila of Gopalganj District in the Division of Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is the birthplace of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founder of independent Bangladesh and his grave is also here. In 1995 it became an Upazila. Etymology There is a legend that this area used to be flooded. Some saints who practiced Islam relocated to this area from Persia. They started living in this area by making canopied houses at low cost. Such houses are called "Tong" in Bengali hence the name of the place is Tungipara (Tungi+para). "Para" means neighborhood. Geography Tungipara is located at on the north-eastern bank of the Modhumoti River. It is the most southern upazila of Gopalganj District. To the north is Gopalganj Sadar, the east is Kotalipara, on the south Nazirpur and in the west is Chitalmari Upazila of Bagerhat District. Gopalganj ( bn, গোপালগঞ্জ জেলা) is a district (''zilla'' in Bengali) in the Dhaka Division of Bangladesh. The district has about 1,172,415 civilians and its surface area is 1,490 km2. Mausoleum Of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
Bangabandhu's Mausoleum is the mausoleum of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founder and the first president of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. It is located in Tungipara of Gopalganj district, the birthplace of Mujib, and was designed by architects Ehsan Khan, Ishtiaque Jahir and Iqbal Habib. After Sheikh Mujibur Rahman died in 1975, he was buried in Tungipara. For many years the military junta restricted access to the grave site. After the Awami League elected in June 1996 Bangladeshi general election, the department of archaeology officially started the construction of the complex, which was opened in 2000. Abul Hasan (1947–1975; born Abul Hossain Miah) was a Bangladeshi poet and journalist. Early life Abul was born at Barnigram in Tungipara, Gopalganj Mahakuma, Faridpur District, on 4 August 1947. He was admitted to the University of Dhaka to study English with honours, but could not complete his studies. Instead, he joined the news section of the Ittefaq in 1969. Subsequently, he became assistant editor of the Ganabangla (1972–1973) and Dainik Janapad (1973–1974). Death He died on 26 November 1975 at PG Hospital (now Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University) due to long-standing heart problems. Literary works Abul, who came first in the Asian Poetry Competition held in 1970, occupies an important place in modern Bengali poetry, though he wrote for only a decade.
