Tumut Hydroelectric Power Station
Tumut Hydroelectric Power Station () is a series of three of the original four, now five hydroelectric power stations on the Tumut River in New South Wales, Australia, that are part of the Snowy Mountains Scheme. The generating assets of the three Tumut power stations are owned by Snowy Hydro Limited, a company whose shareholders include the governments of Australia, New South Wales, and Victoria. The company is also licensed to manage the water rights used by the power stations. Stations Tumut 1 Underground Power Station Located downstream of Tumut Pond Dam and below ground level, Tumut 1 Power Station is situated approximately south-west from Cabramurra, under Happy Valley Rd. An Lift & Ventilation Shaft are on Happy Valley Rd. The conventional hydroelectric power station has four turbine generators, with a generating capacity of of electricity; and a net generation of per annum. The power station was completed in 1959, and has rated head. The first 330 kV tr ...

Head (hydraulic)
Hydraulic head or piezometric head is a specific measurement of liquid pressure above a vertical datum., 410 pages. See pp. 43–44., 650 pages. See p. 22. It is usually measured as a liquid surface elevation, expressed in units of length, at the entrance (or bottom) of a piezometer. In an aquifer, it can be calculated from the depth to water in a piezometric well (a specialized water well), and given information of the piezometer's elevation and screen depth. Hydraulic head can similarly be measured in a column of water using a standpipe piezometer by measuring the height of the water surface in the tube relative to a common datum. The hydraulic head can be used to determine a ''hydraulic gradient'' between two or more points. "Head" in fluid dynamics In fluid dynamics, ''head'' is a concept that relates the energy in an incompressible fluid to the height of an equivalent static column of that fluid. From Bernoulli's principle, the total energy at a given point in a fluid i ...

List Of Dams And Reservoirs In Australia
Dams and reservoirs in Australia is a link page for any dam or reservoir in Australia. Australian Capital Territory There are three key water storage facilities located in the Australian Capital Territory. The fourth source of water for Canberra, Googong Dam, is in NSW. In addition, there are four smaller man-made reservoirs used for recreation and as traps for sediment and fertilizers . New South Wales There are dams, weirs, catchments, and barrages in New South Wales. Of these, 135 facilities are considered major dams according to the Australian National Committee on Large Dams. Dams and reservoirs The largest reservoir in New South Wales is the Lake Eucumbene in the Snowy Mountains, formed by the Eucumbene Dam. Weirs and barrages Cancelled and decommissioned Northern Territory There are 805 named water storage facilities located in the Northern Territory. List Of Power Stations In New South Wales
This is a list of active power stations in New South Wales, Australia. Candidates for this list must already be commissioned and capable of generating 1 MW or more of electricity. Solar Coal fired These fossil fuel power stations burn bituminous coal to power steam turbines that generate some or all of the electricity they produce. * In 2007 Delta Electricity re-rated the two units at Mt Piper at 700 MW capacity. * In 2018 Liddell was downrated to 1,680 MW capacity. * In February 2022, Origin Energy announced plans to bring forward the closure of Eraring to 2025, pending approval by the Australian Energy Market Operator. Gas turbine These fossil fuel power stations are fired with gas or liquid fuels to produce electricity by use of a gas turbine. Gas reciprocating engines These power stations use gas combustion in reciprocating engines to generate some or all of the electricity they produce. Hydroelectric These hydroelectric power stations use the ...

Carbon Dioxide
Carbon dioxide (chemical formula ) is a chemical compound made up of molecules that each have one carbon atom covalently double bonded to two oxygen atoms. It is found in the gas state at room temperature. In the air, carbon dioxide is transparent to visible light but absorbs infrared radiation, acting as a greenhouse gas. It is a trace gas in Earth's atmosphere at 421 parts per million (ppm), or about 0.04% by volume (as of May 2022), having risen from pre-industrial levels of 280 ppm. Burning fossil fuels is the primary cause of these increased CO2 concentrations and also the primary cause of climate change.IPCC (2022Summary for policy makersiClimate Change 2022: Mitigation of Climate Change. Jounama Pondage
Jounama Dam is a major ungated rockfill embankment dam across the Tumut River in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales, Australia. The dam's main purpose is for the generation of hydro-power and is one of the sixteen major dams that comprise the Snowy Mountains Scheme, a vast hydroelectricity and irrigation complex constructed in south-east Australia between 1949 and 1974 and now run by Snowy Hydro. The impounded reservoir is called the Jounama Pondage. Location and features Completed in 1968, Jounama Dam is a major dam, located approximately north by east of the town of Talbingo. The dam was constructed by Societe Dumez based on engineering plans developed under contract by the Snowy Mountains Hydroelectric Authority. Construction of the dam flooded the historic valley and town of Talbingo. The dam wall comprising of rock fill is high and long. At 100% capacity the dam wall holds back of water. The surface area of Jounama Pondage is and the catchment area is . The spil ...
