Tumalo, Oregon
Tumalo ( ) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Deschutes County, Oregon, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 488. In the Klamath language, ''tumolo'' means "wild plum," a plentiful shrub in south central Oregon. ''Tumola'' means "ground fog," which may have described Tumalo Creek. ''Tumallowa,'' the original name of Tumalo Creek, means "icy water." Geography Tumalo is in north-central Deschutes County on U.S. Route 20 between Sisters, to the northwest, and Bend, the county seat to the south. Eagle Crest Resort is to the northeast. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Tumalo has an area of , all of it land. The town lies along the Deschutes River. Tumalo Creek joins the Deschutes south of the town. Tumalo State Park is a well-developed state park in Deschutes County, Oregon, United States. Established in 1954, the park is located northwest of the city of Bend and along the Deschutes River at a site home to many bird species. Tumalo Mountain
Tumalo Mountain is a shield volcano in the Cascade Range of central Oregon, located just northeast of Mount Bachelor across the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway. Climb, the views Ice age glaciers carved a large Cirque (landform), cirque into the northeast flank of the mountain, producing a bowl which is popular with local backcountry skiers. A United States Forest Service fire lookout tower was built on the summit in the 1930s, but abandoned in the 1970s and subsequently removed. The volcano's southwest flank is home to a route that leads to the top. One can see Broken Top, Mt. Bachelor, and the Three Sisters Complex. Ben Westlund
Bernard John "Ben" Westlund II (September 3, 1949 – March 7, 2010) was an American politician in the U.S. state of Oregon. A Democrat, he was elected State Treasurer in 2008. Previously, Westlund served in both houses of the Oregon Legislative Assembly, as a Republican from 1996 to 2006, as an independent from 2006 to 2007, and then as a Democrat. Westlund dropped his Republican party affiliation to run for Governor of Oregon in the 2006 election, but dropped out of the race in August. In December 2006 he became a Democrat. Westlund worked as a business analyst, and ran businesses in mining, ranching, and agriculture. Early life Westlund was born in Long Beach, California and his family moved to Oregon when he was a teenager.
