Tulliebole Castle
Tullibole Castle is a 17th-century castle in Crook of Devon, a village in Perthshire. It was built by John Halliday in 1608 and is currently owned by the Moncreiff family. The castle was designated a Category A listed building in 1971. History The first evidence of a building on the site was in 1304. The current castle began as a 16th-century tower house before it was expanded in 1608 by John Halliday who bought the land in 1589 from the Herring family. The castle was extended again later in the 18th century before it was passed by marriage to the Moncreiff family in around 1740. The interior of the castle and the gardens were renovated in the late 1950s. The name of the castle changed from Tulliebole Castle to Tullibole Castle during the same period. In 2012, a memorial was unveiled at the castle, commissioned by the current owner of the castle, Rhoderick Moncreiff. Crook Of Devon
Crook of Devon is a village within the parish of Fossoway in Kinross-shire about west of Kinross on the A977 road. Its name derives from the nearly 180-degree turn, from generally eastwards to generally westwards and resembling the shape of a shepherd's crook, which the River Devon makes at the village. History The village is located on what was a major medieval east-west route between Stirling and St Andrews at the lowest point on the river which is often fordable, and where it was crossed by a major north-south road from Glen Devon (the main pass through the Ochil Hills range to the north) that skirted around the bend in the river. The combination of crossroads and ford encouraged an early settlement, and in 1615 it was raised to a Burgh of Barony by James VI for the local landowner John Halliday of Tullibole. Baron Moncreiff
Baron Moncreiff, of Tulliebole in the County of Kinross, is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 9 January 1874 for the lawyer and Liberal politician Sir James Moncreiff, 1st Baronet. He had already been created a Baronet, of Kilduff in the County of Kinross, in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom on 23 May 1871. In 1883 Lord Moncreiff also succeeded his elder brother as 11th Baronet, of Moncreiff in the County of Perth. On his death the titles passed to his eldest son, the second Baron. He was a Judge of the Court of Session from 1888 to 1905 under the title of ''Lord Wellwood'' and served as Lord Lieutenant of Kinross-shire between 1901 and 1909.
