New Hampshire Route 171 (abbreviated NH 171) is a east–west highway in southern Carroll County in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. The highway runs from NH 109 in Moultonborough to NH 16 in Ossipee. Route description NH 171 begins at an intersection with NH 109 (Governor John Wentworth Highway) in the town of Moultonborough. The two-lane highway heads east as Mountain Road, which passes along the southern flank of the Ossipee Mountains, including Mount Roberts, Turtleback Mountain, and Mount Shaw, and by the Castle in the Clouds. NH 171 continues through the town of Tuftonboro, where the route crosses the Melvin River and passes to the south of Dan Hole Pond. Tuftonboro, New Hampshire
Tuftonboro is a town in Carroll County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 2,467 at the 2020 census. Bounded on the southwest by Lake Winnipesaukee, Tuftonboro includes the villages of Tuftonboro Corner, Center Tuftonboro, Melvin Village and Mirror Lake. History Tuftonboro was the only incorporated place in New Hampshire owned by just one man, John Tufton Mason, for whom the town was named. Following the 1741 separation of New Hampshire from Massachusetts, Mason was heir to the Masonian Claim, the undivided lands of northern New Hampshire. He sold them in 1746 to a group of Portsmouth merchants, thereafter known as the Masonian Proprietors. They disposed of the land via grants to prospective settlers prior to the Revolution. The Greek Revival was an architectural movement which began in the middle of the 18th century but which particularly flourished in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, predominantly in northern Europe and the United States and Canada, but also in Greece itself following independence in 1832. It revived many aspects of the forms and styles of ancient Greek architecture, in particular the Greek temple, with varying degrees of thoroughness and consistency. A product of Hellenism, it may be looked upon as the last phase in the development of Neoclassical architecture, which had for long mainly drawn from Roman architecture. Lakes Region (New Hampshire)
The Lakes Region of New Hampshire is located in the east-central part of the state, south of the White Mountains Region and extending to the Maine border. It is named for the numerous lakes in the region, the largest of which are Lake Winnipesaukee, Lake Winnisquam, Squam Lake, and Newfound Lake.
