Tuenjai Deetes
Tuenjai Deetes ( th, เตือนใจ ดีเทศน์, ; born 8 April 1952), formerly Tuenjai Kunjara na Ayudhya ( th, เตือนใจ กุญชร ณ อยุธยา, ), (Thailand) received the Global 500 Roll of Honour in 1992, and was awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize in 1994. Deetes has worked with Hill tribe (Thailand), Thai hill tribes since the early-1970s. She co-founded the Hill Area Development Foundation in 1986. She is a former commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission (Thailand), Human Rights Commission until she resigned that post in July 2019. The Global 500 Roll of Honour was an award given from 1987 to 2003 by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The award recognized the environmental achievements of individuals and organizations around the world. A successor system of UNEP awards called Champions of the Earth started in 2005. The Goldman Environmental Prize is a prize awarded annually to grassroots environmental activists, one from each of the world's six geographic regions: Africa, Asia, Europe, Islands and Island Nations, North America, and South and Central America. The award is given by the Goldman Environmental Foundation headquartered in San Francisco, California. It is also called the ''Green Nobel.'' Hill tribe ( th, ชาวดอย, ชาวเขา, ) (Northern Thai language, Northern Thai: จาวดอย, คนดอย, ; 'mountain people/folk') is a term used in Thailand for all of the various ethnic groups who mostly inhabit the high mountainous Northern Thailand, northern and Western Thailand, western regions of Thailand, including both sides of the border areas between northern Thailand, Laos and Burma, the Phi Pan Nam Range, the Thanon Range, the latter a southern prolongation of the Shan Hills, as well as the Tenasserim Hills in Western Thailand. These areas exhibit mountainous terrain which is in some areas covered by thick forests, while in others it has been heavily affected by deforestation. National Human Rights Commission (Thailand)
The National Human Rights Commission of Thailand ( Abrv: NHRCT; th, คณะกรรมการสิทธิมนุษยชนแห่งชาติ, ) was established on 13 July 2001 as a national human rights institution. The seven member commission has been unable to meet for want of a quorum since 30 July 2019, when two commissioners resigned, stating that they could "no longer perform their duties independently and effectively due to restrictive regulations and a hostile and toxic environment."
