Tuckerton Seaport
The Tuckerton Seaport is a working maritime village and museum located in Tuckerton, New Jersey, United States. The site, which opened in May 2000, features 17 historic and recreated buildings connected by a boardwalk, a maritime forest and wetlands nature trail. The seaport, which is a member of the Council of American Maritime Museums, celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2010. History The site of the Tuckerton Seaport was built on a formerly-wooded site along Tuckerton Creek, which had long been slated for commercial development. In 1989, plans for a motel, campground, and marina were brought to the planning board. July 1993, Barnegat Bay Decoy and Baymen's Museum opened adjacent to Stanley "Tip" Seaman Park, on a site currently occupied by tennis courts. The Tuckers of Sherbro are an Afro-European clan from the Southern region of Sierra Leone. The clan's progenitors were an England, English trader and agent, John Tucker, and a Sherbro princess. Starting in the 17th century, the Tuckers ruled over one of the most powerful chiefdoms in the Sherbro country of Southern Sierra Leone, centered on the village of Gbap. Clan History In the 1620s, there were a number of European agents in the Sherbro region of Sierra Leone; these traders were looking for camwood, ivory, and other such items, and traded with the locals. Andrews-Barlett Homestead
The Andrews-Bartlett Homestead is located in the village of Tuckerton Seaport on Main Street in Tuckerton in Ocean County, New Jersey near the Baymen's Museum. The original section of the house was built and is believed to be the oldest home in Ocean County, New Jesey. Mordecae Andrews built the original two-room home in 1699. Nathan Bartlett bought the house in 1824 and enlarged the entire structure, encompassing the original portion in the center and actually completely surrounding it. Partial funding for restoration of the building was in place as of 2017. Some repairs were made in 2019. Bartlett-Rockhill-Bartlett House
Bartlett-Rockhill House, also known as the Sea Captain's House, is located in the village of Tuckerton Seaport on Main Street in Tuckerton in Ocean County, New Jersey near Baymen's Museum. The house was constructed circa 1855 for Edmund Bartlett and was later owned by the sea captain, Capt. Zebedee W. Rockhill. It was purchased by Bartlett's nephew, J. Henry Bartlett's, in 1910, who lived there until 1945. The house combines of late Federal and early Victorian styles, with additions and alterations made to the house up until the 1930s. Now owned by the museum, the house is used for temporary storage, occasional events Victorian-era interpretation.
