Tuas Naval Base
Tuas Naval Base (TNB) is the second naval base of the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN). Located at the western tip of Singapore, it occupies 0.28 km² (0.11 sq mi) of land. It was officially opened on 2 September 1994 by then Prime Minister of Singapore, Goh Chok Tong. For about two decades, Brani Naval Base was the RSN's only base. An expansion of the fleet in the early 1980s meant that more space was needed for the fleet and its shore infrastructure. However, this was not possible as the land around Brani was reserved for use by the port authority to develop container facilities. As a result, Tuas was selected as the site for a second naval base. Better utilisation of space at TNB resulted in two and a half times more berthing space than Brani, even though TNB only has a shoreline of 850 m (0.5 mi). Republic Of Singapore Navy
The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) is the naval service branch of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) responsible for defending the country against any sea-borne threats, and the protection of its sea lines of communications, that would compromise Singapore as a global trading hub. The RSN traces its origins to the Royal Navy when Singapore was still a Crown colony of the British Empire. After Singapore's independence from Malaysia in 1965, the service was formally established in 1967, and had undergone a substantial modernisation ever since—which led them into becoming the most powerful navy in Southeast Asia. Goh Chok Tong
Goh Chok Tong (; born 20 May 1941) is a Singaporean former politician who served as Prime Minister of Singapore between 1990 and 2004, and Secretary-General of the People's Action Party between 1992 and 2004. He was the Parliament of Singapore, Member of Parliament (MP) for Marine Parade Single Member Constituency, Marine Parade SMC between 1976 and 1988, and Marine Parade Group Representation Constituency, Marine Parade GRC between 1988 and 2020. Brani Naval Base
Brani Naval Base was a naval base of the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), which has since relocated to Changi Naval Base and Tuas Naval Base. The headquarters of the Singapore Police Force's Police Coast Guard is now located at the old navy premises. Pulau Brani was selected to house the naval base in the early 1970s and work started on 17 August 1972, with Brigadier Sir Bruce White as the consultant. The entire project cost SGD 35 million and was completed in January 1974. On 26 January 1974, former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew opened the Singapore Maritime Command Naval Base. The naval base had a new wharf and a supply base complex added 1983 at the cost of SGD 16 million. Victory-class Corvette
The ''Victory''-class corvettes are multi-purpose corvettes based on the MGB 62 design by Germany's Lürssen shipyard for the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN). The six ships were commissioned between 1990 and 1991 and form the Eighth Flotilla of the RSN. History In the 1960s and 1970s, the RSN was primarily concerned with coast guard duties. Fearless-class Patrol Vessel
The ''Fearless''-class patrol vessels were built by Singapore Technologies (ST) Marine for the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) in the 1990s. Four remain in service with the RSN as modified ''Sentinel''-class Maritime Security and Response Vessels (MSRVs), while derivatives of the type are also in service in the navies of Brunei, Oman and the United Arab Emirates. Bedok-class Mine Countermeasures Vessel
The ''Bedok'' class are mine countermeasures vessels of the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN). They play an important role in the maritime security of Singapore, ensuring that the Singapore Strait and the sea lanes surrounding Singapore remain mine-free and open to international shipping.
