Tuam Stars
Tuam Stars ( ga, Réalta Thuama) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the Tuam area in County Galway, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The club is a member of the Galway GAA. Underage teams up to U-16's play in the Galway GAA, Galway league and championships while Minor, Junior, and Senior compete in their respective competitions in the North Board section. Tuam Stars are a Gaelic football club and are one of the most successful clubs in Galway Football's history. History In December 1887 Tuam's first football club was formed as an Association football team. In February 1889 the club switched to Gaelic football under the name Tuam Stars. They played their first game on St. Patrick's Day of that year. Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. The association also promotes Irish music and dance, as well as the Irish language. Jack Mangan
Jack Mangan (6 May 1927 – 17 September 2013) was an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played as a goalkeeper for the Galway senior team. Mangan is regarded as one of Galway's greatest-ever goalkeepers. He made his debut for the team during the 1948 and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement due to injury a decade later. During that time he won one All-Ireland winners' medal and four Connacht winners' medals. In 1956 he captained the side to the All-Ireland title. Gary O'Donnell (Gaelic Footballer)
Gary O'Donnell (born 6 January 1988) is an Irish sportsperson, who plays inter-county Gaelic football for Galway. He is a first cousin of double All-Ireland-winning former Galway footballer and two-time All Star Jarlath Fallon. O'Donnell's parents are both from County Mayo and he has uncles who have played football for that county at a number of levels. O'Donnell, who first played football with St Colman's, Gort, also played hurling in his youth and was on the same under-age teams as later Galway senior inter-county players Aidan Harte and Greg Lally. Gort's football team disbanded in 2009 and O'Donnell moved to Tuam Stars, as it was the club his cousins, the Fallons, played for. Doherty played his club football with Tuam Stars and county football for the Galway senior football team from 2011 to 2013. Paul Doherty (Gaelic Footballer)
Paul Doherty is a former inter-county goalkeeper for Galway. Doherty made his Championship debut against Mayo in May 2007 and has been a first choice for the county in the Championship ever since. In the 2007 Connacht SFC semi-final against Leitrim, the then manager of Galway, Peter Forde, praised Doherty after Donal Brennan's shot was stopped by Doherty. "The opposition is always going to have chances during a 70 minute game. That is what we expect our goalkeeper to do, to pull off a great save like that when it is needed and thankfully he did that. Jarlath Fallon
Jarlath "Ja" Fallon (born 1973) is a former Gaelic footballer who played for the Tuam Stars club and at senior level for the Galway county team. He is regarded as one of the finest players to come from Tuam since Seán Purcell and Frank Stockwell. He was an integral part of the Galway county football team from 1995 to 2005, winning All Stars footballer of the year in 1998. Fallon was born in Tuam and played Gaelic football in primary school at St Patrick's and in secondary school with St Jarlath's College, both in Tuam. Johnny Carey (Gaelic Footballer)
Johnny Carey is a former GAA All Star Gaelic footballer and Garda Superintendent from Bangor Erris, County Mayo, Ireland. He won 2 Connacht Senior Football Championships, in 1967 and 1969, with the Mayo county team and a National Football League medal in 1970. Frank Stockwell
Frank Stockwell (7 December 1928 – 9 March 2009) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played for his local club Tuam Stars and at senior level for the Galway, Louth and London county teams at various periods between 1949 and 1960. He is regarded as Galway's greatest-ever full forward. Playing career Stockwell began his inter-county career in 1949, at the age of 19. He continued to play for Galway until 1950, when he moved to Louth to play club football with. This led to Stockwell playing for the Louth seniors in 1950 and 1951. Tuam ( ; ga, Tuaim , meaning 'mound' or 'burial-place') is a town in Ireland and the second-largest settlement in County Galway. It is west of the midlands of Ireland, about north of Galway city.
