Tutu (clothing)
A tutu is a dress worn as a costume in a classical ballet performance, often with attached bodice. It may be made of tarlatan, muslin, silk, tulle, gauze, or nylon. Modern tutus have two basic types: the Romantic tutu is soft and bell-shaped, reaching the calf or ankle; the Classical tutu is short and stiff, projecting horizontally from the waist and hip. Etymology The word tutu can refer to only the skirt part of the costume. The bodice and tutu make up what is usually the entire costume, but which is called the tutu (by synecdoche, wherein the part – the skirt – can embody the whole). The derivation of the word '' tutu'' is unknown. The word was not recorded anywhere until 1881. One theory is that it is simply derived from the word ''tulle'' (one of the materials from which it is made). A second theory is that the word comes from the slang of French children that refers to the buttocks (''cul''). During that era, the ''abonnés'' (rich male subscribers at the Paris Opera ...

Osei Tutu
Osei Kofi Tutu I ( – ) was one of the founders of the Ashanti Empire, assisted by Okomfo Anokye. The Asante are an Akan ethnic group of West Africa. Osei Tutu led an alliance of Asante states against the regional hegemon, the Denkyira, completely defeating them. He ruled the Kumaseman State between c.1680/c.1695-1701 (he was definitely Kumasehene by 1695) and he ruled the Ashanti Empire from late 1701-c.1717. Asantemansu, Kwaaman, Amantoo and Kumase states It is unclear about who out of Oti Akenten, Obiri Yeboa and Osei Tutu founded Kumase, or at least had its name changed. This is because Kwaaman is in the same place as Kumase (Kwaaman is Kumase). Most accounts tell that it was Osei Tutu who, with the help of Akomfo Anokye, founded Kumasi after growing trees in 3 places and seeing which tree grew the best. However, it is also said that it was Obiri Yeboa who founded Kumase in an attempt to move his capital away from his Denkyrian overlords, which makes sense as he was the ...

Tutu (plant)
Tutu is a common name of Māori origin for plants in the genus ''Coriaria'' found in New Zealand. Six New Zealand native species are known by the name: *''Coriaria angustissima'' *''Coriaria arborea'' *'' Coriaria lurida'' *'' Coriaria plumosa'' *'' Coriaria pteridoides'' They are shrubs or trees; some are endemic to New Zealand. Most of the plant parts are poisonous, containing the neurotoxin tutin and its derivative hyenanchin. The widespread species ''Coriaria arborea'' is most often linked to cases of poisoning. Honey containing tutin can be produced by honey bees feeding on honeydew produced by sap-sucking vine hopper insects (genus ''Scolypopa'') feeding on tutu. The last recorded deaths from eating honey containing tutin were in the 1890s, although sporadic outbreaks of toxic honey Bees can suffer serious effects from toxicity, toxic chemicals in their environments. These include various synthetic chemicals, particularly insecticides, as well as a variety of naturally o ...

Tutu (Mesopotamian God)
Tutu was a minor Mesopotamian god. The meaning and origin of his name are uncertain. He was originally the tutelary god of Borsippa, near Babylon, and appears in the name of an ''ensi'' (governor) of the area from the Ur III period, Puzur-Tutu. References to worship him are also known from Kish and Sippar, and he seemingly appears in theophoric names from Larsa, Babylon and Dilbat, though it is uncertain if every instance of a divine name written as DU-DU or tu-tu in personal names refers to the same deity. Tutu is still attested as a distinct deity in the role of the tutelary god of Borsippa during the reign of Hammurabi. As evidenced by god lists he was syncretised with Marduk in later periods, similar to Asalluhi, a god of exorcisms and son of Enki, the agricultural god Enbilulu, as well as an otherwise unknown deity named Šazu. In Enuma Elish, Tutu is one of the names bestowed upon Marduk, seemingly one connected with Babylon's role as a center of refurbishing and ritually ...

Tutu (Egyptian Official)
Tutu was one of pharaoh's officials during the Amarna letters period 1350–1335 BC. He is only found in the body of letters from Aziru, and his son, DU -Teššup. Four of the Amarna letters—EA 158, 164, 167 and 169—are addressed to the Pharaoh, by way of Tutu. DU-Teššup's single letter is written to pharaoh because his father Aziru is being detained in Egypt, and Aziru is needed to attend to affairs at home. Unless he were to remarry he may never return home again. Letter EA 164 The undamaged letter EA 164 ''"Coming, on condition"'' by Aziru to Tutu is a good example of the intrigues of Aziru in north Canaan, and the involvement of all the local regions, and leaders. Other letters * EA 158, "Father and son" *EA 164, "Coming, on condition" * EA 167, "The constant Hittite menace" * EA 169, "Aziru in Egypt Egypt ( ar, مصر , ), officially the Arab Republic of Egypt, is a transcontinental country spanning the northeast corner of Africa and southwest corner of Asia ...

Tutu (Egyptian God)
Tutu ( Ancient Egyptian: ''twtw'' - meaning "image"; Tithoes in Greek) was an Egyptian god worshipped by ordinary people all over Egypt during the Late Period. The only known temple dedicated to Tutu is located in ancient Kellis. However, reliefs depicting Tutu are seen in other temples, such as the Temple of Kalabsha. Tutu's title at the Shenhur temple was "Who comes to the one calling him". Other titles of his are "Son of Neith," "the Lion," "Great of Strength", and "Master of the demons of Sekhmet and the wandering demons of Bastet". Tutu's iconography is anthropomorphic, consisting of the body of a striding, winged lion, the head of a human, other heads of hawks and crocodiles projecting from the body, and the tail of a serpent. He was the son of Neith, who was considered as a "dangerous goddess". Other goddesses in the same aspect were named as Mut, Sekhmet, Nekhbet and Bastet. This meant that Tutu is placed in a position of power over demons. It was his role to slay demons ...
