Tsalenjikha
Tsalenjikha ( ka, წალენჯიხა, also transliterated as Tsalendjikha and Tzalenjikha) is a town in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region of western Georgia with the population of 3,847 (2014). It is located on the river Chanistsqali. Historically, Tsalenjikha functioned as one of the residences of the Dadiani princess of Mingrelia and a bishopric seat with a medieval cathedral of the Savior. Etymology "Tsalenjikha" is a composite toponym, meaning in Mingrelian either "the fortress of Chan" (I. Kipchidze, S. Janashia) or "the lower fortress" ( A. Chikobava). Tsalenjikha District
Tsalenjikha ( ka, წალენჯიხის მუნიციპალიტეტი, ''Ċalenjixis municiṗaliṫeṫi'') is a district of Georgia, in the region of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti. Its main town is Tsalenjikha. Tsalenjikha Municipality is located in the valleys of the Enguri and Chanistskali rivers, the area is 646.7 km2, the population is 26,158 people (2014). The municipality includes 14 administrative units, including 2 cities Tsalenjikha and Jvari. Tsalenjikha Cathedral
The Tsalenjikha Cathedral Church of the Transfiguration of Savior ( ka, წალენჯიხის მაცხოვრის ფერისცვალების საკათედრო ტაძარი, tr) is a medieval Georgian Orthodox cathedral at the town of Tsalenjikha, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region, Georgia. The cathedral is administered by the Zugdidi and Tsaishi Eparchy of the Georgian Orthodox Church. It is best known for a unique cycle of murals which exemplifies the direct import of Byzantine Palaeologan style and even artists in Georgia. Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti (Georgian: სამეგრელო-ზემო სვანეთი) is a region (Mkhare) in western Georgia with a population of 308,358 (2021) and a surface of . The region has Zugdidi as its administrative center, while Giorgi Guguchia is governor of the region since June 2021. Terenti Graneli
Terenti Kvirkvelia ( ka, ტერენტი კვირკველია), well known with his pen-name Terenti Graneli ( ka, ტერენტი გრანელი) (1897–1934) was a noted Georgian poet. Born in Tsalenjikha, he was raised in a family of poor peasants. After graduating primary school in his native village in 1918 he continued studying at the short courses organized by Shalva Nutsubidze in Tbilisi. He had several jobs including a worker at the railway station, and clerk at the newspaper. Graneli published his first verses in 1918. His collection of poems "Memento mori" appeared in 1924. From the beginning of 1928 Graneli's health worsened and he died in 1934. His works include poems, essays. His letters to his sisters are also well-known. Dadiani
The House of Dadiani ( ka, დადიანი ), later known as the House of Dadiani- Chikovani, was a Georgian family of nobles, dukes and princes, and a ruling dynasty of the western Georgian province of Mingrelia. The House of Dadiani The first data about the family dates back to 1046 AD. Presumably, the Dadiani descended from a certain Dadi, of the House of Vardanisdze. Appointed as hereditary ''eristavi'' (dukes) of Odishi (Samegrelo) in reward for their military services, the family had become the most powerful feudal house in western Georgia by the 1280's. At that time, the branches of the family governed also Svaneti, Guria, and Bedia. The Georgia national football team ( ka, საქართველოს ეროვნული საფეხბურთო ნაკრები, tr) represents the country of Georgia in men's international football matches, and it is controlled by the Georgian Football Federation.
