	Trumbo (2007 Film) ''Trumbo'' is a 2007 American documentary film directed by Peter Askin, produced by Will Battersby, Tory Tunnell, Alan Klingenstein, and David Viola, executive produced by Jim Kohlberg, and written by Christopher Trumbo. It is based on the letters of Trumbo's father, Dalton Trumbo, an Oscar-winning screenwriter who was imprisoned and blacklisted as a member of the Hollywood Ten, ten screenwriters, directors and producers who refused to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) in 1947 during the committee's investigation of Communist influences in the Hollywood film industry. The film debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival and includes film clips and interviews, readings from Trumbo's letters by performers such as Michael Douglas, Joan Allen, Donald Sutherland, Liam Neeson, and Paul Giamatti, and a reenactment by David Strathairn of a speech given by Dalton Trumbo in 1970. 	Andrew Trumbo Andrew Alkire Trumbo (September 15, 1797 – August 21, 1871) was a United States representative from Kentucky. He was born in Bath County, Kentucky and attended the common schools. He was employed in the county clerk's office. After studying law, he was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Owingsville, Kentucky in 1824.In 1830, Andrew was the clerk and the Commonwealth attorney for Bath County. Trumbo was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-ninth Congress (March 4, 1845 – March 3, 1847). After leaving Congress, he was the presidential elector on the Democratic ticket in 1848. Trumbo was considered an expert on the McCarthy-era Hollywood blacklist. His father, screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, was blacklisted by Hollywood for nearly a decade for refusing to testify to Congress, as one of a group known as The Hollywood Ten. Early life Trumbo was born on September 25, 1940, to Dalton and Cleo Trumbo. He was raised in Los Angeles. Trumbo was seven years old when his father was called before the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1947. His father spent ten months in prison before being released in 1951. 	Isaac Trumbo Isaac Trumbo (1858–1912) was a prominent California businessman and a colonel in the California National Guard. He was born in Nevada and grew up in Salt Lake City. His maternal grandfather, Colonel John Reese, was the founder of Nevada at Genoa, and also a Mormon.
