The Diocese of UK, Europe and Africa is one of the 30 dioceses of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church with its headquarters in London. History The roots of this parish can be traced back to the 1930s. Abu Alexios of the Bethany monastery (later Bishop Mar Theodosius) was the first priest of the church ever to visit the UK. Thomas Mar Makarios (born 26 May 1926 in India and died on 23 Feb 2008 in Newcastle, England) was the founder of the diocese of the United States and Canada of the Malankara Orthodox Church and the first metropolitan of the UK, Europe , Africa diocese , the diocese of the United States and Canada and the Diocese of Bombay . Makarios began his career as a school teacher in India, resigning this position to study theology. He was ordained a priest in 1952, and was appointed first vicar of the Malankara Orthodox Church in New Delhi. In 1963 he entered the United States to study for an advanced degree, receiving a Master's in religion from Virginia Theological Seminary, and a doctorate in theology from Union Theological Seminary of Richmond, Virginia. Yuhanon Mar Meletius
Yuhanon Meletius is the metropolitan bishop of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church's Thrissur Diocese in India. Following the death of Baselios Marthoma Paulose II in 2021, Meletius was one of the seven members of an administrative council that governed the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church (MOSC). Early life and education Yuhanon Meletius was born to Markose and Saramma Murimakkil at Elakkaranadu. He attended primary school at Maneed before attending St. Peter's College in Kolenchery, graduating with a degree on Malayalam.
