True As Steel (film)
''True As Steel'' is a 1924 American silent drama film directed and written by Rupert Hughes which stars Aileen Pringle and Huntley Gordon. The film is about a married businesswoman who has an affair with a married colleague. Plot As described in a film magazine review, Frank Parry, a middle-aged, successful manufacturer, goes to New York City. There he becomes infatuated with Mrs. Eva Boutelle, a handsome businesswoman, whose husband Harry is out of town. He offers to secure a divorce if she will do likewise and then marry her. The temptation is strong for Mrs. Boutelle is fascinated by him. However, she remains true to her marriage vows, and the final meeting between the pair results in Eva resolving to remain "true as steel" to her spouse. Parry returns home, remorseful and determined to remain loyal to his faithful wife. Rupert Raleigh Hughes (January 31, 1872 – September 9, 1956) was an American novelist, film director, Academy Award, Oscar-nominated screenwriter, military officer, and music composer. He was the brother of Howard R. Hughes Sr. and uncle of billionaire Howard Hughes, Howard R. Hughes Jr. His three-volume scholarly biography of George Washington broke new ground in demythologizing Washington and was well received by historians. A staunch anti-Communist, in the 1940s he served as president of the American Writers Association, a group of anti-Communist writers. Lucien Littlefield (August 16, 1895 – June 4, 1960) was an American actor who achieved a long career from silent films to the television era. He was noted for his versatility, playing a wide range of roles and already portraying old men before he was of voting age. Life and career Lucien Littlefield was born in San Antonio, Texas and attended Staunton Military Academy. He started his movie career in 1913 and worked as an actor until his death in 1960. He usually portrayed comedic supporting characters, often much older than himself. His role of the doctor in '' The Cat and the Canary'' (1927) is one of his more notable performances. The character actor appeared with Laurel and Hardy, first as an eccentric professor in '' Dirty Work'' and finally as a veterinarian in '' Sons of the Desert'', both made in 1933. Raymond William Hatton (July 7, 1887 – October 21, 1971) was an American film actor who appeared in almost 500 motion pictures. Biography Hatton was born in Red Oak, Iowa. His physician father steered him toward a career in medicine. However, Hatton had become enamored of being on stage after he acted in a school play, and he left home to go into acting as a career. Hatton was part of a vaudeville act that went to Hollywood in 1911. There, he established a successful silent film career, including a stint being paired in 1920s comedies with Wallace Beery. During the sound era, though, his career soon skidded and he usually played smaller supporting roles, including the tobacco-chewing, rowdy character Rusty Joslin in ''The Three Mesquiteers'' Western B picture series.
