Troy Newman (activist)
Troy Edward Newman-Mariotti, known as Troy Newman (born 1966), is an American anti-abortion activist. He is the president of Operation Rescue, which is based in Wichita, Kansas, and sits on the board of the Center for Medical Progress. Newman became involved in the anti-abortion movement in the early 1990s, and in 1999 became president of Operation Rescue West which was based in Southern California, but moved to Kansas in 2002 because the group wanted to focus on its campaign against abortion doctor George Tiller's clinic, one of the few in the nation to do abortions after fetal viability. In 2015, Newman attracted international attention for his illegal entry to Australia for an anti-abortion speaking tour and subsequent deportation. Maribyrnong Immigration Detention Centre was an Australian immigration detention facility in Maribyrnong, Victoria. Assassination Of George Tiller
On May 31, 2009, George Tiller, a physician from Wichita, Kansas, who was nationally known for being one of the few doctors in the United States to perform late terminations of pregnancy (also known as "late-term abortions"), was murdered by Scott Roeder, an anti-abortion extremist. Tiller was killed during a Sunday morning service at his church, Reformation Lutheran Church, where he was serving as an usher. Tiller had previously survived an assassination attempt in 1993 when Shelley Shannon shot him in the arms. John Britton (doctor)
John Bayard Britton (May 6, 1925 – July 29, 1994) was an American physician. He was assassinated in Pensacola, Florida, by anti-abortion extremist Paul Jennings Hill. Britton's death was the second assassination of a Pensacola abortion provider in under a year and a half; he had replaced David Gunn after the latter's 1993 murder by another anti-abortionist. Born in Boston, Britton graduated in 1949 from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, then served in the US Army stationed in Korea and also taught at the Medical College of Georgia.
