Ed Troxel
Edward Ross Troxel (November 20, 1925 – January 22, 2001) was a high school and college football coach in Colorado, Idaho, and eastern Washington. His most notable coaching stops were at Borah High School in Boise, the University of Idaho in Moscow, and Kennewick High School. Early life Born in Kansas in 1925, Troxel grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado. His 33-year-old father died after a pipeline welding accident in Oklahoma when Ed and his high school football coaches had a great influence on him, leading to his career in coaching. Troxel moved with his mother Ruth and sister Betty to Colorado Springs in 1940 and served in the U.S. Navy as a teenager during World War II. The Fleetwoods were an American vocal group from Olympia, Washington whose members were Gary Troxel (born November 28, 1939), Gretchen Christopher (born February 29, 1940), and Barbara Ellis (born February 20, 1940). Early history The band members met as high school students in Olympia, Washington. Originally the band consisted of only Gretchen Christopher and Barbara Ellis, but Gary Troxel was asked to accompany them with jazz trumpet, later switching to vocals. They then started performing in 1958 as "Two Girls and a Guy" but later changed the name to the Fleetwoods after the Fleetwood telephone exchange. In 1959, they were noticed by producer and Dolton Records founder Bob Reisdorff and together they recorded their self-written first hit "Come Softly to Me", which was also covered by others. Melanie Troxel is a drag racer who has raced in Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Modified. She is the only woman to have won races in both Top Fuel and Funny Car. She was named Individual Sportswoman of the Year 2006 by the Women's Sports Foundation after becoming the first drive to appear in five consecutive championship finals that year. Career Melanie Troxel became interested in drag racing while working on cars for her father's race team. She had a breakout year in 2006, when while racing in Top Fuel, she became the first driver to appear in five championship finals consecutively. She won two of those races for Don Schumacher Racing. During those races, she set the sport's record for fastest pass at and quickest in 4.458 seconds. She was named Individual Sportswoman of the Year 2006 by the Women's Sports Foundation.
