Troubridge Hill
Troubridge Hill is a hill on the south coast of Yorke Peninsula in South Australia located in the locality of Honiton about south west of Edithburgh and about west of Troubridge Point. It was discovered, reported as being a ’hummock upon this low part (of the coastline)’ and named by Matthew Flinders on 24 March 1802 after Sir Thomas Troubridge, 1st Baronet. Since 1980, it has been the site of an operating lighthouse known as the Troubridge Hill Lighthouse. Honiton, South Australia
__NOTOC__ Honiton is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on the south coast of Yorke Peninsula immediately adjoining Investigator Strait about west of the state capital of Adelaide and about west of the Edithburgh town centre. Its boundaries were created in May 1999. The name derives from the former government town of Honiton which was proclaimed on 27 April 1876, which ceased on 26 September 1982 and whose site is within the locality’s extent. The former government town’s name itself is reported as being derived from Honiton, a town located in Devonshire, England. Honiton’s coastal boundary with Investigator Strait includes coastal features such as Troubridge Hill and Troubridge Point. The area was known as Troubridge in 1871 when the land was first released for farming before the town of Honiton was surveyed in August 1874. Yorke Peninsula
The Yorke Peninsula is a peninsula located northwest and west of Adelaide in South Australia, between Spencer Gulf on the west and Gulf St Vincent on the east. The peninsula is separated from Kangaroo Island to the south by Investigator Strait. The most populous town in the region is Kadina. History Prior to European settlement of the area commencing around 1840, following the British colonisation of South Australia, Yorke Peninsula was the home to the Narungga people. Edithburgh is a small town on the south-east corner of Yorke Peninsula situated on the coastline of Salt Creek Bay, in the state of South Australia. Edithburgh is about west of Adelaide across Gulf St Vincent, but away by road. At the 2016 census, the locality had a population of 516 of which 454 lived in its town centre. Troubridge Point
Troubridge Point is a headland in the Australian state of South Australia located on the south coast of Yorke Peninsula about south west of Edithburgh. It is the western end of the opening to Gulf St Vincent. Description Troubridge Point is about south west of Edithburgh. It is the most easterly point of the Yorke Peninsula coast that directly adjoins Investigator Strait. It is the termination for a pair of coastlines - one extending from Cape Spencer in the west and the other extending from Sultana Point from the north in Gulf St Vincent. Hummock

They are typically less than in height and tend to appear in groups or fields. Large landslide avalanches that typically occur in volcanic areas are responsible for formation of hummocks. Matthew Flinders
Captain Matthew Flinders (16 March 1774 – 19 July 1814) was a British navigator and cartographer who led the first inshore circumnavigation of mainland Australia, then called New Holland. He is also credited as being the first person to utilise the name ''Australia'' to describe the entirety of that continent including Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania), a title he regarded as being "more agreeable to the ear" than previous names such as ''Terra Australis''. Flinders was involved in several voyages of discovery between 1791 and 1803, the most famous of which are the circumnavigation of Australia and an earlier expedition when he and George Bass confirmed that Van Diemen's Land was an island. While returning to Britain in 1803, Flinders was arrested by the French governor at Isle de France (Mauritius). Rear Admiral Sir Thomas Troubridge, 1st Baronet (22 June 17571 February 1807) was a Royal Navy officer. As a junior officer he saw action at the Battle of Sadras in February 1782 during the American Revolutionary War and the Battle of Trincomalee in September 1782 during the Anglo-French War. He commanded the third-rate '' Culloden'' at the Battle of Cape St Vincent in February 1797 during the French Revolutionary Wars. He went on to be First Naval Lord and then served as Commander-in-Chief, East Indies, during the Napoleonic Wars. Naval career Born the son of Richard Troubridge, a baker, Troubridge was educated at St Paul's School, London. He entered the Royal Navy on 8 October 1773 and, together with Horatio Nelson, served in the East Indies in the frigate . Troubridge Hill Lighthouse
Troubridge Hill Lighthouse is a lighthouse located on Troubridge Hill on the south coast of Yorke Peninsula in South Australia about south west of Edithburgh and about west of Troubridge Point. History It was built as part of a project to downgrade the lighthouse on Troubridge Island to a relatively low-powered automatic operation (later decommissioned) and built a full-powered light on the nearby Yorke Peninsula coastline. The tower was constructed from unpainted brickwork built of custom-made bricks. The brickwork construction system was selected as it reportedly offered wind and earthquake loading design benefits. As it is intended for automatic operation, the tower has no windows. The innovative use of brickwork in the tower won its procurers an award from the South Australian Clay Brick Association. Troubridge Hill Aquatic Reserve
__NOTOC__ Troubridge Hill Aquatic Reserve is a marine protected area in the Australian state of South Australia located in Investigator Strait adjoining the south coast of Yorke Peninsula at the headland of Troubridge Hill. It was declared in 1984 for the ‘"protection of marine habitat and associated organisms and for education and recreation purposes." The collection or removal of any marine organism is prohibited with the exception of organisms collected by line fishing. The following activities are permitted - boating, recreational diving and swimming. The aquatic reserve extends seaward for a distance of about from the coastline between Suicide Point to the west of Troubridge Hill to a point on the coast about east of Troubridge Hill.
