Troubled Times (Cast Album)
''Troubled Times'' is the fifth album by the English band Cast, released digitally on 2 November 2011. It is the first album they recorded since reuniting in 2010 for shows celebrating the 15th anniversary of their debut, ''All Change''. It is also the last album recorded with founding bassist Pete Wilkinson, who left the band in 2014. Background Nearly a decade after Cast split up shortly after the release of their fourth album ''Beetroot'', lead singer and songwriter John Power had already released three solo albums when he started writing material that he felt was more suited to the band. After spending the years since the split shying away from Cast's music, Power decided it was time to play the songs again, especially with debut album ''All Changes impending 15th anniversary. ''Beetroot'' is the fourth album by the English band Cast, released on 30 July 2001. From the album, a single was released, "Desert Drought", which reached #45 in the UK Singles Chart. Two further intended singles, "Kingdoms And Crowns" and "Giving It All Away" were cancelled due to the album and first single's poor sales. Background In the run up to the album's release, the band ran a competition via their then-official website, appealing to fans to submit their own ideas for possible album titles, as the band proposed that they would choose a title from all of the entries received. Steve Pilgrim (musician)
Steven Michael "Steve" Pilgrim (born 1979 in Liverpool) is an English drummer and singer-songwriter. He was originally the drummer for The Stands (2003–2004) playing on both the band's albums however he left before the band eventually split up. Following his departure, Pilgrim has established a career as a singer-songwriter, releasing four solo albums to date: ''Lover, Love Her'' (2007), ''Sunshine'' (2009), ''Pixels and Paper'' (2011) and ''Morning Skies'' (2017). He has also drummed for several artists including John Power and Paul Weller. Biography Pilgrim joined The Stands as drummer in 2003 and played with the band for one year. The band were part of Liverpool's Bandwagon scene in the early 2000s and Noel Gallagher was an early fan of The Stands. ''Mother Nature Calls'' is the second album by the English band Cast, released on 14 April 1997 by Polydor. It spawned four singles: " Free Me", " Guiding Star", "Live the Dream" and " I'm So Lonely". Critical reception AllMusic's Stephen Thomas Erlewine was critical of Power's melodies lacking in memorability and his lyrics being "naive and ftenembarassingly simplistic" that the rest of the band can't convey it well, concluding that: "When the tunes and attitude are there, such weaknesses are easy to overlook, but since Cast comes up deficient on both counts, ''Mother Nature Calls'' is simply a dull listen." In a retrospective review, Jamie Atkins of ''Record Collector'' said the album offered "more of the same" as its predecessor, "but considerably duller", bar the "shimmering Guiding Star, one of their better moments". Shelter is a registered charity that campaigns for tenant rights in Great Britain. It gives advice, information and advocacy to people and lobbies government and local authorities for new laws and policies. Liam Tyson
Liam Sean "Skin" Tyson (born 7 September 1969 in Liverpool) is an English guitarist, best known as the lead guitarist for Cast. Tyson's first band, Pyramid Dream, gigged regularly around Liverpool in the late 1980s and early '90s. The band released one cassette album and appeared on compilation LP "One Summer In Liverpool". In 1991, the band toured Russia as part of a cultural exchange tour organised by Liverpool City Council. Tyson didn't contribute greatly to the compositions of this band, however his contribution lying in "total dedication to his instrument". In 1994 Tyson joined Cast, the band formed by former La's bass player John Power. The band went on to sign to Polydor and released 3 studio albums, All Change, Mother Nature Calls and Magic Hour. John Power (singer-songwriter)
John Timothy Power (born 14 September 1967) is an English singer, songwriter and rhythm guitarist. He was the frontman of 1990s Indie rock band Cast, and the bassist and backing vocalist for The La's from 1986 to 1991. Following the dissolution of Cast in 2001, Power embarked on a solo career. In 2005, he briefly reunited with the La's, who split up again without releasing new material. Cast reformed in 2010, releasing the album '' Troubled Times'' in March 2012, followed by ''Kicking Up the Dust'' in April 2017. Power was born in Allerton, Liverpool. The La's Having previously struggled to find a permanent bass player since their formation, the La's recruited then 18-year-old John Power in July 1986 after he met Mike Badger at a course for unemployed musicians. Peter Wilkinson (bass Guitarist)
Leslie Peter Wilkinson (born 9 May 1969 in Liverpool) in an English bass player and singer-songwriter, formerly of Shack, Cast, and Echo & the Bunnymen. He is currently concentrating on his Aviator project and has recorded and released an album with Michael Blyth as Michael Blyth and the Wild Braid, getting 4/5 star reviews in ''Uncut/Mojo/Maverick'' and ''Classic Rock''. Biography Although having taught himself to play bass at an early age by listening to new wave bands such as The Stranglers and Siouxsie and the Banshees, Wilkinson took an interest in jazz and went on to tour the jazz circuit across the north west of England and North Wales. He gained a college diploma in the genre before deciding that he would never be able to move out of the small clubs he was already playing whilst playing jazz.
