Trouble In Tahiti
''Trouble in Tahiti'' is a one-act opera in seven scenes composed by Leonard Bernstein with an English libretto by the composer. It is the darkest among Bernstein's "musicals", and one of only two for which he wrote the words and the music. (He also wrote the lyrics for the 1950 production of ''Peter Pan''.) ''Trouble in Tahiti'' received its first performance on 12 June 1952 at Bernstein's Festival of the Creative Arts on the campus of Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, to an audience of nearly 3,000 people. The NBC Opera Theatre subsequently presented the opera on television in November 1952, a production which marked mezzo-soprano Beverly Wolff's professional debut in the role of Dinah. Wolff later reprised the role in the New York City Opera's first staging of the work in 1958. The original work is about 40 minutes long. Claude Heater
Claude Heater (October 25, 1927 – May 28, 2020) was an American opera singer. He is also known for portraying the role of Jesus Christ (uncredited in the titles) in the 1959 classic film '' Ben-Hur''. Biography Born in Oakland, California, Heater grew up in a family who were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). When Heater was nineteen years old, he served as a missionary of the LDS Church in the Eastern United States. He began his career on Broadway as a baritone in New York City in 1950. In 1952, he decided to focus on opera and left to study as a baritone in Italy. A soprano () is a type of classical female singing voice and has the highest vocal range of all voice types. Nell Tangeman (21 December 1914 – 15 February 1965) was an American mezzo-soprano. Life and career Tangeman was born in Columbus, Ohio. After earning a degree in violin performance from Ohio State University, she pursued vocal studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music. She studied with Friedrich Schorr, Margaret Matzenaur, and Nadia Boulanger. In 1946, she made her New York debut singing the role of Jocasta in Igor Stravinsky's '' Oedipus rex'' with the New York Philharmonic under conductor Leonard Bernstein. David Atkinson (baritone)
David Anthony Stuart Atkinson (born David Burke; October 20, 1921 – October 4, 2012) was a Canadian baritone and New York Broadway actor/singer. Most of his career was spent performing in musical theatre, musicals and operettas in New York City from the late 1940s through the early 1970s, although he did appear in some operas and made a few television appearances. In 1952 he created the role of Sam in the world premiere of Leonard Bernstein's ''Trouble in Tahiti''. ''On the Town'' is a musical with music by Leonard Bernstein and book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, based on Jerome Robbins' idea for his 1944 ballet ''Fancy Free'', which he had set to Bernstein's music.
