Moderate Tropical Storm Ana was a deadly tropical cyclone that affected the African nations of Madagascar, Malawi and Mozambique and the third-deadliest tropical cyclone in 2022 thus far, after the Western Pacific Tropical Storm Megi and Cyclone Batsirai (with the latter impacting Madagascar two weeks after Ana). The first named storm of the 2021–22 South-West Indian Ocean cyclone season, Ana developed from an area of convection that was designated as ''Invest 93S'' northeast of Madagascar. Moderate Tropical Storm Dumako was a weak tropical cyclone that caused moderate damage in Madagascar. The fourth disturbance and fourth named storm of the 2021–22 South-West Indian Ocean cyclone season, it was the third storm to make landfall on Madagascar in 2022 after Ana and Batsirai. Meteorological history On 10 February, a zone of disturbed weather formed over the central South Indian Ocean. One day later, the JTWC recognized it as Invest 94S. On the same day at 18:00 UTC, MFR designated the system as a tropical disturbance. A day later, the MFR upgraded the disturbance to a tropical depression. Kapichira Hydroelectric Power Station
The Kapichira Power Station is a hydroelectric power plant at the Kapachira Falls on the Shire River in Malawi. 2022 Antananarivo Floods
On 18 January 2022, a series of floods occurred in northern Madagascar, especially around the Antananarivo area, where 11 people were killed. The floods were caused by heavy rainfall, with rainfall totals of up to 226 mm falling during the night of 17–18 January.
