Tristar Gym
The Tristar Gym is a mixed martial arts training centre located in Le Triangle Borough in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Instructors at the gym include Firas Zahabi, Conrad Pla and Georges St-Pierre. Tristar Gym is one of the top professional MMA training camps. History The gym was established in 1991 by Conrad Pla, Michel Lavallée and Ron Di Cecco. The three owners was the basis for the name of the gym. Alexandre Choko joined the gym as a fighter in 1992 and eventually bought the gym in 2001. In 2008 he sold the gym to Firas Zahabi. Zahabi had become Georges St-Pierre’s main coach after GSP’s loss to Matt Serra (UFC 69). In addition to being the current owner Zahabi is also the head coach at the gym. In 2021, owner Firas Zahabi detailed how his gym had been regularly harassed by the Montreal police force during the Covid-19 pandemic. Conrad Pla
Conrad Pla (born October 24, 1966) is a Canadian actor and former professional kickboxer. He is best known for founding Tristar Gym and starring in the Canadian television series ''ReGenesis''. Early life Pla was born in Madrid and moved to Canada with his parents at the age of three. Career Pla was a professional kickboxer between the ages of 18 and 32. He competed in the light heavyweight and super middleweight division. With 26 pro fights, he was ranked 3rd in the world, was the International Sport Karate Association, ISKA North American Champion as well as the World Kickboxing Association, WKA Intercontinental Champion. He fought Javier Mendez (mixed martial arts trainer), Javier Mendez for the ISKA World title in Santa Cruz, California, in 1995 but lost a close split decision. Matt Serra
Matthew John Serra (born June 2, 1974) is an American former professional mixed martial artist and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner who competed for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He is the co-star of Dana White: Lookin' for a Fight and co-host of the official podcast of the UFC, UFC Unfiltered, alongside Jim Norton. Serra defeated Pete Spratt, Shonie Carter and Chris Lytle en route to becoming The Ultimate Fighter 4 Welterweight Tournament Winner. He captured the UFC Welterweight Championship immediately after. Joseph Duffy (fighter)
Joseph Duffy (born 18 February 1988) is an Irish retired mixed martial artist who competed in the lightweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Alex Garcia (born July 14, 1987) is a Dominican mixed martial artist who formerly competed in the Welterweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Background Makdessi was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada on May 3, 1985, and is a first-generation Lebanese-Canadian born to Lebanese parents.
