Trinity River Authority
The Trinity River Authority (TRA) was formed in 1955 by the Texas legislature. Its main concerns are water supply and water conservation in the Trinity River Basin. North Lake (Dallas County, Texas)
North Lake is a reservoir located in Dallas, Texas, southeast of Coppell. North Lake Park is on its southern side. History The lake area was once a large bowl-like valley that was used for farming. Construction on North Lake Dam began in 1956 and the dam was complete in August 1957. Many of the trees where the lake was to be built were cut down, although a few small structures still exist. The reservoir was designed as a cooling reservoir for a Dallas Power and Light Company electric power plant. At that time, the City of Dallas, Texas annexed the land around the power plant and the lake. In 1978, the lake began to be used for fishing as well. Fish did not survive well due to low nutrient levels, so in 1978 the Dallas Parks and Recreation Department began fertilizing the water and stocking it with bass. Navarro Mills Lake
Navarro Mills Lake is located in Navarro County, Texas. It is located 20 miles west of Corsicana, and about 35 miles east of Waco. History The lake is owned by the U.S. Government and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Construction of the lake began in January 1959, and it was completed in March 1963. The total cost was $9.5 million. It was built for flood protection and to sustain the water demand for the potential population growth. The lake has a maximum depth of 49 feet. Hydrology The Navarro Mills Lake has the Trinity River and Richland Creek impounded. The lake has the surface area 5,070 acres. The dam and spillway is approximately 7,570 feet long embankment and it has a maximum height of 81.7 feet. Mountain Creek Lake
Mountain Creek Lake is a reservoir located southwest of Downtown Dallas, Texas, United States, in the Mountain Creek area of the city. It is located south of SH 180, west of Spur 408, north of I-20, and east of FM 1382. The defunct Naval Air Station Dallas (Hensley Field), now an Armed Forces Reserve Center, is located on the northern shore of the lake. Mountain Creek Lake Park is on the lake's southeastern and southwestern edges. The Texas Department of State Health Services in April 1996 issued a ban on keeping or eating fish due to high contamination levels of PCBs and other toxic chemicals. The ban was lifted in 2010, but TDSHS advised against consuming any fish caught in the lake. Joe Pool Lake is a fresh water impoundment (reservoir) located in the southern part of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex in North Texas. Eagle Mountain Lake is a reservoir in North Texas, formed by the damming the West Fork of the Trinity River. The reservoir sits below Lake Bridgeport reservoir and above Lake Worth reservoir. Lewisville Lake, formerly known as Garza-Little Elm Reservoir, is a reservoir in North Texas (USA) on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River in Denton County near Lewisville. Originally engineered in 1927 as Lake Dallas, the reservoir was expanded in the 1940s and 1950s and renamed Lewisville Lake. It was built for flood control purposes and to serve as a water source for Dallas and its suburbs, but residents also use it for recreational purposes. Lake Ray Hubbard, formerly Eastern Dallas Lake or Forney Lake, is a freshwater impoundment (reservoir) located in Dallas, Texas in the counties of Dallas County, Texas, Dallas, Kaufman County, Texas, Kaufman, Collin County, Texas, Collin, and Rockwall County, Texas, Rockwall, just north of the Forney, Texas, City of Forney.
