Ross Wiseman
Alfred Ross Robert Martin Wiseman is a Canadian politician from Newfoundland and Labrador. Wiseman represented the district of Trinity North in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly from 2000 to 2015, as a member of the Progressive Conservative Party. Wiseman served in the provincial cabinet as Minister of Finance, President of the Treasury Board, Minister of Environment and Conservation, Minister of Business and Minister of Health and Community Services. He also served as Speaker of the House of Assembly from 2011 to 2014. Prior to entering cabinet he was the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health and Community Services. Politics Wiseman was elected as the member of the House of Assembly (MHA) for the district of Trinity North on April 25, 2000. Dunfield is a local service district and designated place in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is southwest of Catalina. It had a population of 222 in 1940, 193 in 1951 and 210 in 1956. Renamed in 1913, the present day Dunfield was once the community of Cuckold's Cove. Lady Cove is a settlement located southeast of Clarenville, Newfoundland and Labrador. The Post Office was established in 1898 and the first Postmaster was Hayward Burt. Hodge's Cove
Hodge's Cove is a local service district and designated place in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is southeast of Clarenville. Hodge's Cove was settled in 1861 and was first referred to as Hodge's Hole. It is not known for sure, but the settlement's name may have come from visitors who made short trips to the area to cut wood. As early as the 1840s, fisherman from Grates Cove in Trinity Bay came to Southwest Arm looking for wood. The way office was established in 1884 and the first way master was James Drover. It had a population of 261 in 2016. Geography Hodges Cove is located on the southern shoreline of Southwest Arm in a valley with the surrounding hills rising to an elevation of 150 meters. Hillview-Adeytown
Hillview-Adeytown is a former local service district and former designated place on the east coast of Newfoundland in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada that existed from 1999 until 2008. It consisted of the village of Hillview on the Southwest Arm of Trinity Bay and the village of Adeytown ( ) on the Northwest Arm of Trinity Bay, just south of Clarenville. Today Hillview-Adeytown is part of the designated place of Hillview-Adeytown-Hatchet Cove-St. Jones Within and part of the local service district of Random Sound West. History of Adeytown Adeytown (formerly called Lee Bight), like Deep Bight, Piston Mere, Maggoty Cove and Forrester's Point, was founded in the 1850s and 1860s as a small logging operation and, with the building of the Newfoundland Railway, it grew as the demand for lumber was at a peak. Hickman's Harbour
Hickman's Harbour is a village southeast of Clarenville, on Random Island in Trinity Bay. The first Waymaster in 1881 was Joseph Pilley. By 1900, Hickman's Harbour, the site of the best deep-water anchorage on the island, had become the centre of the Random Island fishing and shipbuilding industries. Other methods of employment include sawmilling and slate mining, though the actual quarry was across the sound in Nut Cove. By 1901 Hickman's Harbour was the most populous community on Random Island with 309 people. The population was 476 in 1956. Gooseberry Cove
Gooseberry Cove is a settlement in the Trinity Bay area of Newfoundland located on an area of land known as the Southwest Arm, which extends off the Trans Canada Highway on Route 204. It is neighbored by the communities of Butter Cove and Southport. Gooseberry Cove was first settled by inshore fishing families sometime around 1832. The earliest names which were present were Langor, Seward, Balsom and Smith, and many of these family names can be still found in the community today. It became a village in 1940, with a population of 640; by 1956 the population had dropped to 141. The first Postmistress was Delilah Florence Smith. Within the community is the main road which runs right through the community itself, with one small side-road which leads to the fish plant and community wharf. Gin Cove is a village located on the north side of Smith Sound on the east coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. The community was first recorded in the 1901 census with a population of 33. Thomas and Louisa (née Butt) Frampton moved to Gin Cove in 1866 from Little Catalina, it is uncertain if they were the first settlers of Gin Cove or not. There were a variety of industries in Gin Cove including fishing, woodcutting and shipbuilding.
