Trigonogenius Globulus
''Trigonogenius globulum'', the globular spider beetle, is a species of spider beetle in the family Ptinidae. It is found in Africa, Australia, Europe and Northern Asia (excluding China), North America, and South America. The species name has been frequently misspelled as ''globulus''. Taxonomy The species name was originally published as ''Ptinus globulum'' by Solier in 1849, under the "section" (equivalent to a subgenus) he named therein as ''Trigonogenius''.Solier, A.J.J. 1849. Order III. Coleopteros entamera, Heteromera I in Gay, C. Historia Fisica y Política de Chile. Paris : Gay C. Vol. 4 pp. 105-380 (p. 464/ref> Numerous subsequent authors have historically misspelled the name as ''globulus'', though some sources still use the correct spelling (e.g.,). Solier, in the same work, named a variety of this species as "var. α ''globosus''", which has only added to confusion surrounding the correct spelling (e.g.,), and other sources treat ''globosus'' as a subspecies of '' ...

Spider Beetle
Spider beetles make up the subfamily Ptininae, in the family Ptinidae. There are approximately 70 genera and 600 species in the subfamily, with about 12 genera and 70 species in North America north of Mexico. Spider beetles have round bodies with long, slender legs. Many species are flightless, either in females only or both sexes. They are generally 1–5 mm long, and reproduce at the rate of two to three generations per year. They are so named because of a resemblance to spiders. Some species have long legs, antennae that can seem like an additional pair of legs, and a body shape that may appear superficially like that of a spider. The larvae and the adults of most spider beetles are scavengers on dry plant or animal matter, but some species are known to be ant associates. The subfamily Ptininae, along with Anobiinae and several others, were formerly considered members of the family Anobiidae, but the family name has since been changed to Ptinidae. Genera These genera b ...

Ptinidae
Ptinidae is a family of beetles in the superfamily Bostrichoidea. There are at least 220 genera and 2,200 described species in Ptinidae worldwide. The family includes spider beetles and deathwatch beetles. The Ptinidae family species are hard to identify because they are so small, and they have a compact body structure. They also have similar morphologies within the genera and species of the family. There are three main groups in the superfamily Bostrichoidea: Bostrichidae, Anobiidae, and Ptinidae. These have undergone frequent changes in hierarchical classification since their inception. They have been treated as a single family, three independent families, the two families Bostrichidae and Anobiidae, or the two families Bostrichidae and Ptinidae. More recent literature treats these as the two families Bostrichidae and Ptinidae, with Anobiidae a subfamily of Ptinidae (Anobiinae). Spider beetles are so named because they look like spiders. Some species have long legs, antenna ...

Captain of engineers in the French army, he made collections in France, Algeria and the Mediterranean area and on an expedition to Oceania especially of Coleoptera. Solier worked on world beetle fauna writing many scientific papers and ''Orden III. Coleopteros''.Gay, C., Historia fisica y politica de Chile segun documentos adquiridos en esta republica durante doce aos de residencia en ella y publiciada bajo los auspicios del supremo gobierno. ''Zoologia''. Tomo cuarto. Paris, Chile, p. 105-508. His collections, especially important for Tenebrionidae, are in the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle. He was a Member of the Société entomologique de France The Société entomologique de France, or French Entomological Society, is devoted to the study of insects. The society was founded in 1832 in Paris, France. The soci ...

Bostrichoidea
Bostrichoidea is a superfamily of beetles. It is the type superfamily of the infraorder Bostrichiformia. Description The Bostrichoidea are united by the following features: modified cryptonephridism, the structure of the aedeagus in males, and the lack of a basal mandibular mola in larvae. Aside from this, Bostrichoidea show a range of morphologies. For example, in Bostrichidae alone, the adult body shape varies from convex to flattened, the body length from 2 to 50 mm, and the colour may be yellow, brown or black and sometimes has a metallic hue. Ecology Bostrichoids generally live in dry habitats. For example, many Bostrichidae feed on wood, though some attack monocotyledonous plants as well and ''Rhyzopertha dominica'' feeds on stored grains and cereal products. Similarly, most Ptinidae are wood-borers as larvae but some feed on other dry plant or animal material, such as stored foods, tobacco and museum specimens. Dermestidae are typically scavengers on dried organic m ...
