Trey Stewart
Harold L. "Trey" Stewart III (born February 7, 1994) is an American politician from Maine. Stewart, a Republican from Presque Isle, has represented District 2 in the Maine Senate since 2020 when he replaced Democrat Michael E. Carpenter. From 2016 to 2020, Stewart served in the Maine House of Representatives. During the 2019-20 session, he served as Assistant Minority Leader. Following his re-election in November 2022, Stewart was named Senate Minority Leader. Fellow Aroostook County Senator Troy Jackson was re-elected as Senate President. Maine Senate
The Maine Senate is the upper house of the Maine Legislature, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Maine. The Senate currently consists of 35 members representing an equal number of districts across the state, though the Maine Constitution allows for "an odd number of Senators, not less than 31 nor more than 35". Unlike the lower House, the Senate does not set aside nonvoting seats for Native tribes. Because it is a part-time position, members of the Maine Senate usually have outside employment as well. The Senate meets at the Maine State House in Augusta. Members are limited to four consecutive terms with each term being two years but may run again after a two-year wait. The Maine House of Representatives is the lower house of the Maine Legislature. The House consists of 151 voting members and three nonvoting members. The voting members represent an equal number of districts across the state and are elected via plurality voting. The nonvoting members represent three of Maine's Native American tribes, though two tribes have declined to send representatives. Each voting member of the House represents around 9,000 citizens of the state. The University of Maine School of Law (UMaine Law or Maine Law) is public law school in Portland, Maine. It is accredited by the American Bar Association and Maine's only law school. It is also part of the University of Maine System. The school's current dean is Leigh Saufley, who assumed the post in 2020. Until 1972 the School of Law was located at 68 High Street, Portland. Troy Jackson (politician)
Troy Dale Jackson (born June 26, 1968) is an American logger and politician from Allagash, Maine currently serving as president of the Maine Senate. Jackson represents Maine Senate District 1, representing northern Aroostook County, including the towns of Fort Kent, Madawaska and Caribou. Jackson has served as Senate President since 2018. Jackson started in politics during the 1998 logging blockade along the Quebec border, protesting the illegal hiring of Canadian workers over Maine loggers, inadequate wages and poor working conditions. Eventually, Jackson was elected to the Maine House of Representatives, where he served three terms before being elected to the Maine Senate in 2008. After Democrats gained the majority in the 2018 election, Jackson was chosen to be Senate President. He has also served as Senate Majority Leader, Senate Minority Leader and now Senate President.
