Trevor Whymark
Trevor Whymark (born 4 May 1950) is a former England international footballer who played in the Football League in the 1970s and 1980s, notably with Ipswich Town. He is currently (2016) the team's sixth highest goal scorer. Ipswich Town Whymark started his football career with Anglian Combination team Diss Town whilst working his office job at a Diss builders' merchant and was signed by Bobby Robson in 1969. Whymark made his Ipswich League debut in February 1970 against Manchester City. In the remaining part of the season Whymark made six full and two substitute appearances, scoring his first and only goal in a vital 2–0 victory over fellow relegation strugglers Sunderland. The following season Whymark only recorded eight full appearances with two substitute appearances and a single goal (in a 4–0 victory of Manchester United). Burston, Norfolk
Burston is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Burston and Shimpling, in the South Norfolk district, in the county of Norfolk, England, 3 miles (4.5 km) north of Diss. In 1931 the parish had a population of 279. In the 2011 Census, Burston and Shimpling had a population of 568 people in 234 households. Paul Mariner
Paul Mariner (22 May 1953 – 9 July 2021) was an English football player and coach. A centre forward during his playing days, Mariner began his career with Chorley. He became a professional player in 1973 with Plymouth Argyle, where he scored 61 goals in 155 appearances and is considered to have been one of the club's best ever players. He joined Ipswich Town in 1976, where he achieved domestic and European success under the guidance of Bobby Robson. He was called up to play for the England national team during his time at Portman Road, and went on to represent his country at the 1980 European Championships and the 1982 World Cup. Texaco Cup
The Texaco Cup, officially known as the International League Board Competition, was an association football competition started in 1970, involving sides from England, Scotland, and Ireland that had not qualified for European competitions. It was one of the first football competitions to receive sponsorship, taking the name of American petroleum company Texaco for £100,000, and was instituted to help promote Texaco's recent purchase of the Regent filling station chain. Irish and Northern Irish clubs withdrew from the competition after 1971–72 due to political pressure, competing in a separate Texaco (All-Ireland) Cup in 1973–74 and 1974–75. Bryan Hamilton
Bryan Hamilton (born 21 December 1946) is a Northern Irish former professional football player and manager. He gained 50 caps for Northern Ireland between 1969 and 1980, and later managed the national team for four years. He later became Technical Director at Antigua Barracuda F.C., which no longer exists, having been dissolved in 2014. David Johnson (footballer, Born 1951)
David Edward Johnson (23 October 1951 – 23 November 2022) was an English professional footballer and manager who played as a forward and won major trophies for Liverpool in the 1970s and 1980s. He also played for Ipswich Town, Everton and other clubs, as well as the England national team. Career Everton Johnson signed for Liverpool rivals Everton as a youngster and after showing his ability in early matches, Liverpool manager Bill Shankly pestered Everton counterpart Harry Catterick to sell the young striker, but was rebuffed. Rod Belfitt
Roderick Michael Belfitt (born 30 October 1945) is a former professional footballer who played for a number of English football teams. His family lived in South Africa and India before settling in Doncaster, where he later played football for amateur side Doncaster United. After a short period at Arsenal he returned to Doncaster United. Later, after signing for another amateur team Retford Town, Belfitt turned professional in July 1963 and signeď for Leeds United. Leeds United Belfitt made his first team debut at Huddersfield on 23 September 1964 scoring the winning goal.
