Trevor Knight (Irish Musician)
Trevor Knight (born 1954) is an Irish musician, composer, theatre sound designer and director. Born in England, he moved to Northern Ireland as a child where he took an interest in the piano. He briefly attended college in Dublin, at Bolton Street College and it was here where he formed his first group, Naima. Whilst living in the Netherlands, he founded the new wave group, Auto Da Fé, along with Gay Woods. When the group split up in 1986, Trevor moved into music composition and theatre sound design. He was elected to Aosdána in 2007. Northern Ireland ( ga, Tuaisceart Éireann ; sco, label= Ulster-Scots, Norlin Airlann) is a part of the United Kingdom, situated in the north-east of the island of Ireland, that is variously described as a country, province or region. Johnny Logan (singer)
Seán Patrick Michael Sherrard (born 13 May 1954), better known by his stage name Johnny Logan, is an Irish singer and composer. He is known as being the only performer to have won the Eurovision Song Contest twice, in Eurovision Song Contest 1980, 1980 and Eurovision Song Contest 1987, 1987. He also composed the winning song in Eurovision Song Contest 1992, 1992. Logan first won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1980, with the song "What's Another Year" written by Shay Healy. In Eurovision Song Contest 1984, 1984, Logan composed the song "Terminal 3 (song), Terminal 3" which placed second at Eurovision, performed by Linda Martin. Carrier Frequency
In telecommunications, a carrier wave, carrier signal, or just carrier, is a waveform (usually sinusoidal) that is modulated (modified) with an information-bearing signal for the purpose of conveying information. This carrier wave usually has a much higher frequency than the input signal does. The purpose of the carrier is usually either to transmit the information through space as an electromagnetic wave (as in radio communication), or to allow several carriers at different frequencies to share a common physical transmission medium by frequency division multiplexing (as in a cable television system). The term originated in radio communication, where the carrier wave creates the waves which carry the information (modulation) through the air from the transmitter to the receiver. A synthesizer (also spelled synthesiser) is an electronic musical instrument that generates audio signals. Synthesizers typically create sounds by generating waveforms through methods including subtractive synthesis, additive synthesis and frequency modulation synthesis. Mary Coughlan (singer)
Mary Coughlan (born 5 May 1956) is an Irish singer, songwriter and actress. Background Mary Coughlan was born in Galway, Ireland. Her father was a soldier from County Donegal. She was the eldest of five and had endured an erratic youth. She left convent school and started drinking alcohol and taking drugs when she was fifteen. At this age she spent time in a mental hospital. After time in hospital and a belated graduation, Coughlan decided to leave home. In the mid-1970s, she moved to London, England, where she married Fintan Coughlan and had three children. In 1981, she left her husband and took custody of her children. In 1984, she moved back to her hometown of Galway. On her return to Ireland, when she started to perform in public, she was noticed by Dutch musician and producer Erik Visser. Piano
The piano is a stringed keyboard instrument in which the strings are struck by wooden hammers that are coated with a softer material (modern hammers are covered with dense wool felt; some early pianos used leather). It is played using a keyboard, which is a row of keys (small levers) that the performer presses down or strikes with the fingers and thumbs of both hands to cause the hammers to strike the strings. Gay Woods
Gay Woods (18 September 1948) is an Irish singer. She was one of the original members of Steeleye Span. Early years Gabriel Corcoran was born in Dublin, a neighbour of her future husband Terry Woods. Her elder brothers shared Woods' love of hillbilly music and blues. Corcoran and Woods performed together in 1963 at Dublin's Neptune Rowing club and got married in May 1968. Performing as a duo, they sang Carter Family songs and occasionally Irish songs. Terry Woods became a member of Sweeney's Men, who played English and American folk music, plus their own compositions. That summer the band performed at Cambridge Folk Festival. Gay Woods was not in the band.
