Trethomas Bluebirds A.F.C. are a Welsh football team based in the village Trethomas in the Caerphilly County Borough. The club plays in the Ardal Leagues South East, tier 3 of the Welsh football pyramid. History The club was formed in 1903 as ''Trethomas Football Club''. The pitch was bought by the miners who worked at the mine and coke works of Bedwas & Trethomas. The name Bluebirds came from one of the founders who was a Cardiff City supporter. The club entered the Gwent County League in 2003, winning promotion to Division Two as Champions in 2005–06. Promotion to Division One followed after the club finished as runners-up in the 2012–13 season. They were promoted to the Welsh Football League in 2015–16 for the first time. Trethomas
Trethomas ( en, Thomastown) is a small village northeast of Caerphilly, southeast Wales, situated in the Caerphilly county borough, within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire. It neighbours Bedwas and Machen, and forms a council ward in conjunction with those communities. Post 1900 New Town With an original name of Thomastown, it was mainly built by William James Thomas, a co-owner of the Bedwas Navigation Colliery Company, (also of mines in Aberdare in the Cynon Valley). Most of the earlier parts of Trethomas were built in and around 1900 - 1913, when the mine was developing and at the apex of coal production in the South Wales coalfield. The terraced streets of Trethomas were appropriately named, some were named after members of William Thomas's family, hence the names: William, James, Thomas, and Mary. The Ardal Leagues are a football league in Wales. The word "ardal" translates as "district" in English, with Wales split into four regions at this level. They have clubs with amateur/semi-professional status and sit at the third level of the Welsh football league system. The first year of their operation would have been 2020–21 but the 2020–21 Ardal North East season, 2020–21 Ardal North West season, 2020–21 Ardal South East season and 2020–21 Ardal South West season were all cancelled. The inaugural season was moved to 2021–22. The creation of the leagues mark the first time the Football Association of Wales owns and is administering tier 3 of the Welsh league system. For its final season in 2019–20 season it operated at levels 3 and 4 of the Welsh football league system.
