Trentepohlia (alga)
''Trentepohlia'' is a genus of filamentous chlorophyte green algae in the family Trentepohliaceae, living free on terrestrial supports such as tree trunks and wet rocks or symbiotically in lichens. The filaments of ''Trentepohlia'' have a strong orange colour (photograph at right) caused by the presence of large quantities of carotenoid pigments which mask the green of the chlorophyll. ''Trentepohlia'' species form associations with fungal hyphae, and are widespread phycobionts in lichens, such as the "secret writing" crustose lichen genera '' Graphis'', '' Graphina'', '' Gyalecta'' and '' Opegrapha''.F.S. Dobson (2000) Lichens, an illustrated guide to the British and Irish species. Richmond publishing Co. T. Friedl and B. Büdel (1996) Photobionts, in Nash, T.H. (ed.) Lichen biology, pp.8-23, Cambridge University Press. There are about 40 species of ''Trentepohlia'' mostly distributed in tropical and subtropical areas but several species also occur in temperate environment ...

Trentepohlia Aurea
''Trentepohlia aurea'' is a species of filamentous terrestrial green alga with a worldwide distribution. It grows on rocks, old walls and the trunks and branches of trees such as oaks and the Monterey cypress ('' Cupressus macrocarpa'') where the tree occurs in coastal central California. The orange coloration results from carotenoid pigments in the algal cells. It is probably the most widespread and abundant species of ''Trentepohlia'' in the Britain and Ireland Ireland ( ; ga, Éire ; Ulster Scots dialect, Ulster-Scots: ) is an island in the Atlantic Ocean, North Atlantic Ocean, in Northwestern Europe, north-western Europe. Cephaleuros
''Cephaleuros'' is a genus of parasitic thalloid green algae comprising approximately 14 species. Its common name is red rust. Specimens can reach around 10 mm in size. Dichotomous branches are formed. The alga is parasitic on some important economic plants of the tropics and subtropics such as tea, coffee, mango and guava causing damage limited to the area of algal growth on leaves (algal leaf spot), or killing new shoots, or disfiguring fruit. Members of the genera may also grow with a fungus to form a lichen that does not damage the plants. Species The species currently recognised are: *''Cephaleuros biolophus'' *''Cephaleuros diffusus'' *''Cephaleuros drouetii'' *''Cephaleuros endophyticus'' *''Cephaleuros expansa'' *''Cephaleuros henningsii'' *''Cephaleuros karstenii'' *''Cephaleuros lagerheimii'' *''Cephaleuros minimus'' *'' Cephaleuros parasiticus'' *''Cephaleuros pilosa'' *''Cephaleuros solutus'' *''Cephaleuros tumidae-setae'' *'' Cephaleuros virescens'' Refe ...
