Trent Sporn
Trent Sporn (born 23 September 1982) is a former Australian rules footballer who played in the Australian Football League (AFL). Sporn was recruited as the number 11 draft pick in the 2000 AFL Draft from North Adelaide. Although recruited from South Australia, he grew up in the Victorian town of Murrayville. Primarily a defender, Sporn made his debut for the Carlton Football Club in Round 2, 2002 against the Sydney Swans. Sporn had a horror run with injuries throughout his career and had his best season in 2003 when he managed to play 14 games and receive up a Rising Star nomination. In six seasons on the Carlton list, Sporn managed 50 games, playing his 50th game in Round 22, 2006 against the Sydney Swans. He was delisted at the end of the season. Sporn returned to North Adelaide in 2007 and played until 2010, retiring in the middle of the season after suffering recurring hamstring injuries. North Adelaide Football Club
North Adelaide Football Club, nicknamed The Roosters, is an Australian rules football club affiliated with the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) and SANFL Women's League (SANFLW). The club plays its home games at Prospect Oval, located in Prospect, a northern suburb of Adelaide. The club joined the SAFA in 1888 as the Medindie Football Club (nickname Dingoes), changing its name to North Adelaide in 1893. It is the fourth oldest club still in operation in the SANFL after South Adelaide (1877), Port Adelaide (1877) and Norwood (1878). AFL Rising Star
The AFL Rising Star is an Australian rules football award presented annually to the player adjudged the best young player in the Australian Football League (AFL) for the year. It was first presented in the 1993 season, and was won by Nathan Buckley, playing for the Brisbane Bears. The recipient of the AFL Rising Star has been awarded the Ron Evans Medal since 2007, named in honour of the former AFL Commission chairman following his death that year. The award was sponsored by Norwich Union Australia from its inception in 1993 until 2000. The AFL then secured a six-year sponsorship deal with Ansett Australia in 2001, that included the Rising Star award; however, this agreement only lasted the one season following the collapse of Ansett in September 2001. Mallee Football League (South Australia)
The Mallee Football League (MFL) was an Australian rules football competition in South Australia. The league comprised teams located in south eastern South Australia and one team (Murrayville) located in western Victoria. The football season started after Easter and ended in early September. The local newspaper ''The Border Times'' had extensive coverage of each week's results of the MFL. Coverage was also provided on WIN SA and Flow FM during the season. During the Queens Holiday Weekend, the MFL selected a team to represent the Mallee against the Riverland. The league's Best & Fairest award was called the ''Mail Medal''.
