Trenchmouth
Trenchmouth was an American punk band from Chicago, Illinois, formed in 1988. Throughout its existence, the band mainly consisted of Damon Locks (vocals/percussion), Chris DeZutter (guitar), Wayne Montana (bass), and Fred Armisen (drums). Biography The band was founded in 1988 after Locks and Armisen dropped out of the School of Visual Arts and moved from New York to Chicago. As a five-piece with two guitarists, the band released their debut EP, "Snakebite," in 1989. After releasing two studio albums, ''Construction of New Action'' and ''Inside The Future'', they released a third LP, ''Trenchmouth vs. The Light of the Sun'', on East West Records, a division of Elektra Records. The band broke up after releasing their final album, ''The Broadcasting System'', in 1996. Armisen went on to be a cast member of ''Saturday Night Live'', and would later create, produce, and star in the TV sketch comedy series ''Portlandia''. The Broadcasting System
''The Broadcasting System'' is the fourth and final studio album by American post-hardcore band Trenchmouth. Produced by Casey Rice, it was released on May 7, 1996 through Skene! Records. The album marks as a shift to bass-heavy dub sound from the band's post-hardcore/math rock style. The band broke up following the release of ''The Broadcasting System''. Inspired by the new sound on the album, the band members Damon Locks and Wayne Montana formed the band The Eternals. Critical reception Allmusic critic Joshua Glazer described the album as "an under-recognized example of the mid-'90s indie scene's fascination with dub/reggae studio techniques." Fred Armisen
Fereydun Robert Armisen (born December 4, 1966) is an American actor, comedian, writer, producer, and musician. With his comedy partner Carrie Brownstein, Armisen was the co-creator and co-star of the IFC sketch comedy series ''Portlandia''. He also co-created and stars in the mockumentary IFC series ''Documentary Now!'' (2015–present) alongside Bill Hader and Seth Meyers as well as the Showtime comedy series ''Moonbase 8'' (2020–present) alongside John C. Reilly and Tim Heidecker. He voiced Speedy Gonzales on ''The Looney Tunes Show'' (2011–2013). Armisen founded ThunderAnt.com, a website that features the comedy sketches created with Brownstein, and is the bandleader and frequent drummer for the ''Late Night with Seth Meyers'' house band, The 8G Band. Skene! Records
Skene! Records was an American DIY punk rock record label founded in Connecticut in 1988 by Jeff Spiegel, then later based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. An early album release was ''Better Yet Connecticut Hardcore'', featuring bands such as Bug Gulp, Fallback, Freedom of Choice, Forced Reality and Scooter X. Spiegel also promoted local punk shows in central Connecticut. The most infamous of which being "the greatest show that never happened", showcased at the New Britain VFW hall and featuring bands such as Big Gulp, Freedom of Choice, and Fallback. Shortly after the show began, during Fallback's set, a fight broke out and the show was forcibly shut down by the New Britain Police department; some of the footage was caught on a video tape that seems to have been lost. Post-punk
Post-punk (originally called new musick) is a broad genre of punk music that emerged in the late 1970s as musicians departed from punk's traditional elements and raw simplicity, instead adopting a variety of avant-garde sensibilities and non-rock influences. Tortoise (band)
Tortoise is an American post-rock band formed in Chicago, Illinois in 1990. The band incorporates krautrock, dub, minimal music, electronica and jazz into their music, a combination sometimes termed "post-rock". Tortoise have been consistently credited for the rise of the post-rock movement in the 1990s. Funk
Funk is a music genre that originated in African American communities in the mid-1960s when musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of various music genres that were popular among African Americans in the mid-20th century. It de-emphasizes melody and chord progressions and focuses on a strong rhythmic groove of a bassline played by an electric bassist and a drum part played by a percussionist, often at slower tempos than other popular music. David Grubbs
David Grubbs (born September 21, 1967) is an American composer, guitarist, pianist, and vocalist. He was a founding member of Squirrel Bait, Bastro, and Gastr del Sol. He has also played in Codeine, The Red Krayola, Bitch Magnet and The Wingdale Community Singers. Music career Grubbs' first band was a brief-lived punk/ new wave group called The Happy Cadavers that released the four-song 7" record ''With Illustrations'' in 1982. Grubbs then formed a hardcore punk band called Squirrelbait Youth that later evolved into the influential Louisville, Kentucky group Squirrel Bait, releasing a 12" EP and an album on Homestead Records.
