Treg Brown
Tregoweth Edmond "Treg" Brown (November 4, 1899 – April 28, 1984) was an American motion picture sound editor who was responsible for the sound effects in Warner Bros.' ''Looney Tunes'' and ''Merrie Melodies'' cartoons from 1936 to 1963. Before that, he worked with Cecil B. DeMille. Adding to this, he also gave fellow Warner Bros voice actor Mel Blanc his big break. He also won the 1965 Academy Award for Sound Effects for his work on the film ''The Great Race''. In the Warner Bros. cartoon ''One Froggy Evening'' (1955), the skyscraper into which Michigan J. Frog is entombed is named the "Tregoweth Brown Building". Gilbert is a city in St. Louis County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,799 at the 2010 census. ''Now Hear This'' is a 1962 Warner Bros. '' Looney Tunes'' cartoon directed by Chuck Jones and Maurice Noble, and written by Jones and John Dunn. The short was released on April 27, 1962. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film the following year. Background The title comes from a phrase used aboard American naval ships as an instruction to cease activity and listen to the announcement that will follow. Later, Jones described the film as "another picture I didn't understand," saying, "We kind of went out into — I don't know if it was left field; it was somewhere else I didn't understand. Jack Warner wasn't the only one who didn't understand that picture. I called it 'Chuck's Revenge', because it was one of the last pictures I made, and I was trying to find some way of infuriating him." The short was released on March 14, 1964, and stars Sylvester the Cat, Sylvester Jr. and Hippety Hopper. A paranoid Sylvester flashes back to earlier cartoons such as '' Who's Kitten Who?'', '' Cats A-Weigh!'', and ''The Slap-Hoppy Mouse'' while describing to a psychiatrist that he thinks Hippety Hopper is out to get him. Soundtrack Anomaly The cartoon is unusual in that it mixes a new soundtrack by Bill Lava with music by Carl Stalling (while alive in 1964, he had retired six years earlier), which is heard during the original shorts that make up this cartoon. That results in a schizophrenic soundtrack (whether this was intentional, given the plot of a mentally unbalanced Sylvester visiting a psychiatrist, isn't known, but it is possible). ''Devil May Hare'' is a 1954 Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' cartoon directed by Robert McKimson. The short was released on June 19, 1954, and stars Bugs Bunny and the Tasmanian Devil making his debut. Plot Bugs is spring cleaning until he is interrupted by a huge variety of animals stampeding in fear. He fails to stop one of them to ask what is going on until he places a shovel in the way of a turtle, who explains that "the Tasmanian Devil's on the loose!". Not knowing what a Tasmanian Devil is, Bugs walks down the stairs into his hole and looks in an encyclopedia. It describes the Tasmanian Devil, or Taz, as a "strong, moiderous beast", with "jaws as powerful as a steel trap" and a "ravenous appetite", who eats a long list of animals. Taz, unknown to Bugs, has spun into the area and is actually standing next to the rabbit as he is reading; the marsupial interjects by writing "and rabbits" at the end of that list.
