Trebanos
Trebanos ( cy, Trebannws) is a village in the Swansea Valley, Wales. With Craig Trebanos and a part of Pontardawe, it forms the Trebanos (electoral ward), Trebanos electoral ward in the Neath Port Talbot county borough. Controversy and opposition concerning the South Wales Gas Pipeline passing through the village led to media attention for the village and a protest camp in 2006 and 2007. Name The village's name in standard Welsh language, Welsh is 'Trebannws'. But in the Welsh-language dialect of the area, there is a tendency to pronounce the final vowel as an 'o'. This has given rise to the form 'Trebanos', which is the form usually used in English. Trebanos RFC
Trebanos Rugby Football Club (Welsh: Clwb Rygbi Trebannws) is a Welsh rugby union team officially founded in 1897. Trebanos RFC is a member of the Welsh Rugby Union and is a feeder club for the Ospreys. Club history 1920s The club re-formed at the end of the First World War and was soon at full strength. Pontardawe
Pontardawe () is a town and a community in the Swansea Valley (Welsh: ''Cwmtawe'') in Wales. With a population of 6,832, it comprises the electoral wards of Pontardawe and Trebanos. A town council is elected. Pontardawe forms part of the county borough of Neath Port Talbot. On the opposite bank of the River Tawe, the village of Alltwen, part of the community of Cilybebyll, is administered separately from Pontardawe, but has close ties to the town. Pontardawe is at the crossroads of the A474 road and the A4067 road. South Wales Gas Pipeline
The South Wales Gas Pipeline (also known as the Milford Haven pipeline) is the UK's largest high-pressure gas pipeline. The pipeline passing through Wales was built for National Grid plc and links South Hook and Dragon liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals at Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire with the national gas network at Tirley, Gloucestershire. The pipeline was expected to cost around £700 million, and was, according to the National Grid, expected to transport around 20% of the gas needed to meet UK consumption in future. Construction of the pipeline was estimated to take approximately three years, aiming to end in October 2007. Greg Thomas (born John Gregory Thomas, 12 August 1960) is a Welsh former cricketer, who played in five Test matches and three One Day Internationals for England between 1986 and 1987. Life and career Thomas was born in Trebanos in Glamorgan. He was a genuine fast bowler, a rare sight in English cricket after the retirement of Bob Willis; apart from the raw pace, he was erratic and often had injury problems. At his best, he matched the speed of the fearsome West Indian pacemen on the tour of West Indies in 1985/86, but leaked too many runs with his wayward bowling. Justin Tipuric ( ; born 6 August 1989) is a Welsh international rugby union player who plays for Wales as an openside flanker. Early life Tipuric is of Croatian descent. He grew up in Trebanos after initially being born in the village of Alltwen. Club career Tipuric plays for the Ospreys Welsh regional team, having previously played for Aberavon RFC. His Ospreys debut came as a replacement in an LV= Cup home defeat to Northampton Saints on 5 November 2009, and he has now played more than 170 times for his home region, including starting in the 2012 Magners League title win over Leinster in Dublin in May, 2012. The Swansea Valley ( cy, Cwm Tawe) is one of the South Wales Valleys. It is the valley from the Brecon Beacons National Park to the sea at Swansea of the River Tawe in Wales. Arwel Thomas
Arwel Camber Thomas (born 8 November 1974) is a native of Trebanos in Swansea Valley. He is a former Wales international rugby union player. An outside-half, he played his club rugby for Swansea RFC. Career Arwel Thomas won his first of his 23 caps against Italy in 1996 when he replaced the injured Neil Jenkins. He played club rugby for Swansea for seven years, scoring 1963 points including 40 tries. He turned down an offer to join Toulouse in 1999, and in 2005 he returned to Neath. Bleddyn Bowen
Bleddyn Bowen (born 16 July 1961) is a former international Wales rugby union player. Bleddyn Bowen played club rugby for South Wales Police and Swansea RFC. His first international game was in 1983, along with five other first caps, against Romania; a game that Wales lost heavily, 24–6. Bowen retained his place and was called to represent Wales in the 1984 Five Nations Championship. Bowen played in the first Rugby World Cup and was then given the honour of captaining his country in the 1988 Five Nations, a tournament in which Wales would win the Triple Crown. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps.
