Treasurer Of Vermont
The State Treasurer's Office is responsible for several administrative and service duties, in accordance with Vermont Statutes. These include: investing state funds; issuing state bonds; serving as the central bank for state agencies; managing the state's cash balances, check processing and reconciliation; safeguarding and returning unclaimed or abandoned financial property; and administering three major pension plans for public employees. The Treasurer is fifth (behind the Lieutenant Governor, Speaker of the House of Representatives, President ''pro tempore'' of the Senate, and Secretary of State, respectively) in the line of succession to the office of Governor of Vermont. Vermont () is a state in the northeast New England region of the United States. The Federalist Party was a Conservatism in the United States, conservative political party which was the first political party in the United States. As such, under Alexander Hamilton, it dominated the national government from 1789 to 1801. Sir John Alexander Macdonald (January 10 or 11, 1815 – June 6, 1891) was the first prime minister of Canada, serving from 1867 to 1873 and from 1878 to 1891. George Howes (Vermont Treasurer)
George Howes (November 14, 1814 – January 30, 1892) was a Montpelier, Vermont businessman and political figure who served as Vermont State Treasurer. Biography George Howes was born in Montpelier, Vermont on November 14, 1814, the son of Martha and Joseph Howes (d. 1863). He was educated in Montpelier, and in 1834 began a business career as a merchant in partnership with Elisha P. Jewett. In addition, he served in local offices including justice of the peace. In 1841 Howes began a banking career as cashier of the Bank of Montpelier (later the Montpelier National Bank), a post he held until 1858. John Spaulding (January 16, 1790 – April 26, 1870) was a Montpelier, Vermont businessman who served as Vermont State Treasurer. Biography John Spaulding was born in Sharon, Windsor County, Vermont on January 16, 1790, the son of Reuben Spaulding and Jerusha Carpenter. Henry Fisk Janes (October 10, 1792 – June 6, 1879) was an American lawyer and politician. He served as a U.S. Representative from Vermont. Biography Janes was born in Brimfield, Massachusetts and moved with his parents to Calais, Vermont where he pursued academic studies. The Whig Party was a political party in the United States during the middle of the 19th century. Alongside the slightly larger Democratic Party, it was one of the two major parties in the United States between the late 1830s and the early 1850s as part of the Second Party System.
