Captain Alexander Smollett
Captain Alexander Smollett is the fictional captain of the schooner ''Hispaniola'' in Robert Louis Stevenson's 1883 novel ''Treasure Island''. He plays an important part in disciplining the main characters on the ship as the story progresses, and helps the protagonists survive against the pirates later on. In the novel He first appears to the reader as a strict, bitter man who finds fault with everything and is never satisfied. Leonid Vasilyevich Markov (russian: Леонид Васильевич Марков; 13 December 1927 – 1 March 1991) was a Soviet and Russian stage and film actor. People's Artist of the USSR (1985). Biography Markov was born in the village Alekseyevka (now Akkol). People's Artist of the RSFSR (1980). Biography Ryzhov was born on 25 January 1913 in the village of Ramensky District, Zelyonaya Sloboda, in the Bronnitsky Uyezd of the Moscow Governorate of the Russian Empire. In 1935, he graduated from the School of the Moscow Theater of the Revolution and became an actor of the theater. He made his film debut in the role of Captain Soroka in the ''Kubans''. Ivan Ryzhov died on the morning of 15 March 2004 in a Moscow hospital. According to his daughter, it happened due to negligence of the medical staff: the actor had fallen and cut his hand. Israel Hands, also known as Basilica Hands, was an 18th-century pirate best known for being second in command to Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard. His name serves as the basis for the name of the villainous sidekick in Robert Louis Stevenson's 1883 novel ''Treasure Island''.
