Travis Wammack
Travis Wammack (born November 1946 in Walnut, Mississippi, United States) is an American rock and roll guitarist from Memphis, Tennessee. Described as an "instumental genius" and "a precursor to guitar-hero shreddding", he is known for his "magnificent guitar pyrotechnics", "hot and speedy guitar chops", and "wild guitar workouts" featuring early use of fuzztone and distortion. A child prodigy, Wammack's first record was released in 1957 when he was eleven years old, and at seventeen he hit the American charts with "Scratchy", an instrumental which peaked at #80 in 1964. He also charted briefly in 1966 at #128 with an instrumental version of "Louie Louie". Wammack worked as a session guitarist at Sonic Recording Service and Hi Records in Memphis and at FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, in the 1960s. Walnut is a town in Tippah County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 771 at the 2010 census. History Walnut was established in 1872 on land belonging to Henry Hopkins, an early settler. Sonny Burgess
Albert Austin "Sonny" Burgess (May 28, 1929 – August 18, 2017) was an American rockabilly guitarist and singer. Biography Burgess was born on a farm near Newport, Arkansas to Albert and Esta Burgess. He graduated from Newport High School in 1948. In the early 1950s, Burgess played boogie woogie music in dance halls and bars around Newport. Burgess, Kern Kennedy, Johnny Ray Hubbard, and Gerald Jackson formed a boogie-woogie band they called the Rocky Road Ramblers. In 1954, following a stint in the US Army (1951–53), Burgess re-formed the band, calling them the Moonlighters after the Silver Moon Club in Newport, where they performed regularly. After advice from record producer Sam Phillips, the group expanded to form the Pacers. The band's first record was "Red Headed Woman" in 1956 for Sun Records, in Memphis, about 80 miles southeast of his birthplace. The flip side was "We Wanna Boogie." Both were written by Burgess. Billy Lee Riley (October 5, 1933 – August 2, 2009) was an American musician, singer-songwriter, and record producer. His most memorable recordings include "Rock With Me Baby", "Flyin' Saucers Rock and Roll"Variously spelled as "...Rock & Roll" or "...Rock 'n' Roll" in different sources. and "Red Hot (song), Red Hot". Biography Riley was born in Pocahontas, Arkansas, the son of a sharecropper. He learned to play the guitar from black farm workers. After four years in the Army, he first recorded in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1955, before being persuaded by Sam Phillips to record for Sun Studios. The Rockabilly Hall of Fame is an organization and website launched on March 21, 1997, to present early rock and roll history and information relating to the artists and personalities involved in rockabilly. Headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, the first induction certificate was issued on November 16, 1997, for singer Gene Vincent. The Gibson ES-335 is the world's first commercial semi-hollowbody electric guitar, sometimes known as semi-acoustic. Released by the Gibson Guitar Corporation as part of its ES (Electric Spanish) series in 1958, it is neither fully hollow nor fully solid; instead, a solid maple wood block runs through the center of its body.
