Travis Credit Union Park, also known as Nut Tree Stadium, was a stadium in Vacaville, California. It was primarily used for baseball and was the home field of the Solano Steelheads of the Western Baseball League The Western Baseball League was an independent baseball league based in the Western United States and Western Canada. Vacaville, California
Vacaville is a city located in Solano County in Northern California. Sitting approximately from Sacramento and from San Francisco, it is within the Sacramento Valley. As of the 2020 census, Vacaville had a population of 102,386, making it the third largest city in Solano County. History Prior to European contact, the indigenous Patwin tribe lived in the area with the Ululato tribelet establishing a chiefdom around the Ululato village in what is now downtown Vacaville along the Ulatis Creek. Redding, California
Redding is the economic and cultural capital of the Shasta Cascade region of Northern California and the county seat of Shasta County. Redding lies along the Sacramento River, north of Sacramento, and south of California's northern border with Oregon. Its population is 95,542 as of the 2022 census, up from 89,861 from the 2010 census. Etymology During the Gold Rush, the area that now comprises Redding was called Poverty Flats. Solano Steelheads
The Solano Steelheads were a minor league baseball team in Vacaville, California. They played in the independent Western Baseball League and were not affiliated with any Major League Baseball team, although four of the players in the 2002 season were mayoral candidates in the Golden One Bank Capital Election. The Steelheads were founded in 1999 as the Sacramento Steelheads by a businessman, Bruce Portner. They played their inaugural season at Sacramento City College. Portner sought to attract attention to the new franchise by hiring the notorious MLB star Pete Rose as "the hitting instructor" of the team. The Steelheads were relatively successful in the WBL standings in 1999. Sacramento's sports fans largely chose to ignore the home venue, which was located on the college grounds, and hence, prevented from serving alcohol. The Western Baseball League was an independent baseball league based in the Western United States and Western Canada. Its member teams were not associated with any Major League Baseball teams. It operated from 1995 to 2002. The league was founded in 1994 by Portland, Oregon, businessman Bruce L. Engel. Solano Thunderbirds
The Solano Thunderbirds were an independent collegiate wood bat baseball team based in Vacaville, California, in the United States. They were owned by Curtis, Susan and Bryant Stocking and played their home games at Travis Credit Union Park in Vacaville. They were members of the Sierra Baseball League and the Horizon Air Summer Series. Their first season was 2003, and 2006 or 2007 seems to have been their last. They succeeded the Western Baseball League's Solano Steelheads as Travis Credit Union Park's primary tenant but never shared in the excitement or crowds enjoyed by Bruce Portner's Steelheads, drawing fewer than 100 people to most of its games. Due to poor management, the Thunderbirds ran up debt in the millions of dollars and were forced to close down the franchise, leaving Vacaville with no baseball team. Tiger Field (baseball Stadium)
Tiger Field is a former Minor League Baseball venue in the Western United States, located in Redding, California. Opened in 1923, it is the home of the summer collegiate Redding Colt 45s. The ballpark is named for its first tenant, the semi-pro Redding Tigers. Tiger Field is on the corner of Market Street and Cypress Ave. The stadium has gone through many renovations over the years. In the 1940s and 1950s, the stadium had a large wooden grandstand. Soon after the folding of the Redding Browns and a fire in the grandstands in 1955, the grandstands were torn down and the stadium orientation was flipped so that the current location of home plate is in the original location of right field.
