Travis Boyd
Travis Boyd (born September 14, 1993) is an American professional ice hockey forward for the Arizona Coyotes of the National Hockey League (NHL). Boyd was selected in the 6th round, 177th overall, by the Washington Capitals in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Boyd played four collegiate seasons of NCAA Division I hockey with the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the Big Ten Conference. With the Gophers, Boyd won a Big Ten Championship in the 2014–15 season, and was named to the Big Ten second All-Star team for that same season. At the age of 17, he became the youngest player drafted in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft when he was selected 177th overall by the Washington Capitals. On March 31, 2015, the Washington Capitals signed Boyd to a two-year, entry-level contract, beginning in the 2015–16 season. The 2015–16 AHL season was the 80th season of the American Hockey League. The regular season began on October 9, 2015, and ended on April 17, 2016. Waivers is a National Hockey League (NHL) labor management procedure by which an NHL team makes a professional ice hockey player's contract and rights available to all other NHL teams. Other NHL teams "waive" any claim to a player designated for assignment in the American Hockey League (AHL) or designated for release. The process is typically referred to as "being placed on waivers." It is similar to the designated for assignment process in Major League Baseball.
