Transvemij–Van Schilt
Transvemij–Van Schilt, also known as Elro Snacks, was a Dutch professional cycling team that competed from 1980 to 1987. The Elro Snacks company sponsored the team from 1980 to 1985. In 1985 Belgian sprinter Freddy Maertens rode for the team then known as Nikon-Van Schilt-Elro Snacks-Colnago. The team competed in one Grand Tour: the 1987 Giro d'Italia. The team was succeeded by , which formed the following year after it folded. Road bicycle racing is the cycle sport discipline of road cycling, held primarily on Road surface, paved roads. Freddy Maertens (born 13 February 1952) is a Belgian former professional racing cyclist who was twice world road race champion. His career coincided with the best years of another Belgian rider, Eddy Merckx, and supporters and reporters were split over who was better.Van Walleghem, Rik; Zwart-Wit (B) 2012 Maertens' career swung between winning more than 50 races in a season to winning almost none and then back again. His life has been marked by debt and alcoholism. It took him more than two decades to pay a tax debt. In road bicycle racing, a Grand Tour is one of the three major European professional cycling stage races: Giro d'Italia, Tour de France, and Vuelta a España. Collectively they are termed the ''Grand Tours'', and all three races are similar in format, being three-week races with daily stages. They have a special status in the UCI regulations: more points for the UCI World Tour are distributed in Grand Tours than in other races, and they are the only stage races allowed to last longer than 14 days. The 1987 Giro d'Italia was the 70th edition of the bicycle race. It began on 21 May with a prologue in San Remo, and concluded on 13 June with a individual time trial in Saint-Vincent. A total of 180 riders from 20 teams entered the 22-stage, -long race, which was won by Irishman Stephen Roche of the team. Second and third places were taken by British rider Robert Millar and Dutchman Erik Breukink, respectively.
