Tranent F.C.
Tranent Football Club is a Scottish football club based in the town of Tranent, East Lothian. History The club was originally named Tranent Juniors, however following an announcement of a merger with Tranent Colts (founded in 1998) in February 2023, the club was renamed Tranent F.C. from the 2023–24 season. Their home ground is Foresters Park and club colours are maroon and white. The team was promoted from the East of Scotland Football League Premier Division to the Lowland League in 2022, having moved from the junior leagues in 2018. The club's greatest honour was winning the Scottish Junior Cup in 1934–35, defeating Petershill 6–1 at Ibrox Park in front of a crowd of 22,000. This remains the joint record margin of victory in a Junior Cup final. The club were also runners-up to Yoker Athletic F.C. in the 1932–33 final after a replay. Tranent is a town in East Lothian (formerly Haddingtonshire), in the south-east of Scotland. The town lies 6 miles from the boundary of Edinburgh, and 9.1 miles from the city centre. It lies beside the A1 road, the A1 runs through the parish splitting the parish from its associated villages and hamlets namely Meadowmill and the port of the parish Cockenzie. The original main post road ran straight through the town until the new A1 was built. Built on a gentle slope, about above sea level it is one of the oldest towns in East Lothian. The population of the town is approximately 12,140, an increase of over 4,000 since 2001. Tranent was formerly a major mining town, but now serves as a commuter town for Edinburgh. Ben Stirling
Ben Stirling (born 16 August 1998) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder or centre-back for Stenhousemuir. Club career Stirling began his career with Hibernian, moving on loan to Berwick Rangers in July 2016. He moved on loan to Cowdenbeath in August 2017, but the loan was cut short in January 2018 after he was recalled by Hibernian manager Neil Lennon. He spent further loans spells at Arbroath in September 2019, and Alloa Athletic in January 2020. He moved to Hamilton Academical in September 2020. On 14 January 2022, Stirling joined Scottish League Two side Edinburgh City on loan for the remainder of the 2021–22 season. He was released by Hamilton at the end of his contract in May 2022. The East Junior Football League, also known as the ''Edinburgh & District Junior League'', the ''Midlothian Junior League'' and the ''Lothians Junior League'', was a football league competition operated in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Falkirk under the Scottish Junior Football Association. Danny Handling
Daniel Handling (born 6 February 1994) is a Scottish footballer who plays for Scottish League One side Edinburgh City. Handling has previously played for Hibernian and Dumbarton as well as Berwick Rangers and Raith Rovers on loan. Early life Handling grew up in Haddington, East Lothian, and attended Knox Academy . His brother, Darren, plays as an attacking midfield player for Dunbar United. Career He made his first-team debut for Hibs as a substitute against Aberdeen on 14 May 2011, becoming the fourth-youngest person to play for Hibs. Handling agreed a new contract with Hibs later that year. Handling was loaned to Third Division club Berwick Rangers in March 2012. He scored two goals on his Berwick debut, a 2–1 win at Peterhead on 24 March. Jonathan Stewart (born 12 February 1990) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic in the SPFL League Two. He has previously played in the Scottish Premier League for Heart of Midlothian and in the Scottish Professional Football League for several clubs.
